What I am trying to verify is if my great-great grandmother really married a man who was 48 years older than her. Did he father a child at 75 years of age?!?

According to this birth record for Maddalena (see image) her father Paolo Pannone was of age 71. That would put his birth about 1804.
Wife is Apollonia Sgueglia, no age given.
Yes, it appears he fathered a child in his seventies.
Re: Pannone/Squeglia/Maselli/McGowan
Do you have record of there marriage Paolo Antonio Stefano Pannone and Apollonia Squeglia that would be the only way to tell the ages I looked at his death record it says Paolo Pannone age 83 son of Giovanni Pannone son of Giovanni Pannone and Maria Mora??? husband of Apollonia Squeglia

Re: Pannone/Squeglia/Maselli/McGowan
From what I have found on family search website, they had 6 children: Stefano (1st child died), Stefano, madelena, Salvatore, Antonio (died early) and Speranza. So sad for them that they lost a child after having them for only one year. Thank you to all who are reviewing my post and offering info. It is a lot to take in. Grazie!!
Re: Pannone/Squeglia/Maselli/McGowan
I was searching for children of Paolo and Apollonia in the birth records.
Found a listing in the index of 1871 for Stefano AND Maria Pannone, records # 1 & 2 ...
Thinking that maybe Stefano and Maria were twins.
Unfortunately, the actual records for 1871 are not there (on Ancestry) though there is a link. Looked in 1870 and 1872 thinking they might be in that link... but no luck.
I'll try to find some of the other children... do you know the approx. years of birth?

Under the "P" you will notice that births 1 & 2 are Stefano (that you listed) and Maria..
First two births of the year. Won't be able to tell if they are indeed twins until the actual record is located. Maria MAY have been a stillbirth.

Re: Pannone/Squeglia/Maselli/McGowan
So sad if that's true. That would make 3 children they lost. Thank you for all of your help. I've been to Italy once and plan on returning within the next few years.
