Carlo Luigi Felice Rattazzi in Oleggio Castello, Novara

Hi all!

I was so excited to get my great grandfather's birth certificate from stato civil Oleggio Castello in Novara but was expecting it to provide me with a little bit more information. I am seeking the names of his parents but they were not included. I find this quite odd. On his death certificate in Barre, Washington, Vermont, USA it lists his parents as Luigi Rattazzi and Angelina Souza. I am seeking to confirm this.

Anyway, what else I found odd was that under name it says: Carlo Luigi Felice
His surname is listed as: Rattazzi

He was born in Oleggio Castello in November, 1872.

It provided additional information, which I already knew, about him marrying Maria Isabella Migliarina in 1897.

My 1st question is, I am hoping that the church would provide the parents' names. Do I just write to the diocese of Novara for more information or do I need to write a specific church? How do I find the address for the diocese of Novara?

My 2nd question is his name... is Felice a surname for his mother or is it a "first" name and then why does he have two middle names?

Carlo Luigi Felice are all first names. His surname is Rattazzi.
Can you post what they sent you? There are different kinds of certificates.

You need to write again, enclose a copy of what they sent and ask them to add the names of his parents. OR ask for a photocopy or the original.

You asked for an 'estratto' and that's what they sent you. They don't think about your goals. They do what you ask. Most don't have email at their desk so that isn't an issue.
You said you wanted to information about your bisnonno also that you are looking for living relatives. Then you asked for the 'estratto'.
Keep it simple. Ask for a photocopy and send photo ID:

I shouldn't send any money at this point. But you should include an addressed envelope and your photo ID as some towns require this for photocopies.
Also, with all due respect to Marty, I wouldn't say 'padre incerto'as this may imply that the father is 'unknown' in the carnal sense. Keep it simple and don't even include those lines.
