Re: Surname EPIS
Oneta is a small village with less than 1000 inhabitants. The surname Epis has 36 entries in the Italian white pages: http://www.paginebianche.it/ricerca?qs= ... BG%29&l=en
You may want to write to some of them since they could be possible telatives. A sample letter can be found at: http://www.angelfire.com/ok3/pearlsofwi ... etter.html
You may also write to the Ufficio di Stato Civile and request the birth record for your grand parents.

Re: Surname EPIS
Have copies of my grandparents birth certificate, written to all the Epis people living in Oneto, waiting, waiting, waiting, is there any more research I can do online, and if so, where do I start as I am not having much luck googling on the Internet.
Re: Surname EPIS
Hello Catterina diletta,
I reside in Geraldton, Western Australia.
Quite a few Epis families immigrated to Australia, in particular Western Australia and also to the U.S.A. via Ellis Island, New York. Many were from Oneta, Bergamo or other Lombardi towns.
I have a family history interest in Epis of Oneta, as my wife's grandfather was Mattia Epis, born 17 May 1875 in Oneta, Bergamo, Italy (I have not researched his parents names). Mattia was known to have a cousin Antonio (Toni) Epis of Oneta, age not stated, he was miner and died 3 August 1916 at Wooroloo Sanitorium, near Northam, W.A. This was a hospital in the hills for miners & people with respiratory illnesses eg Miner's lung or tuberculosis.
Gregory Matthew Valentine Epis & Juanita Rose Epis (Apis) were children of Mattia & Agnes Epis. Other W.A. connected family in Omodei & Borlini.
However there were at least 3 Antonio Epis' in W.A. and the above is not the man you you seek.
I have your grandfather Antonio Epis, bn 1 May 1891, Oneta, Father = Valentino Epis, Mother = Claudia and spouse = Catarina (also Katherina)
They are both buried in the Catholic section, grave no.'s 594/1041, Esperance Cemetery, Western Australia. They were parents of Betty, Alice, Carmel, Aurora and Gloria.
Antonio Epis died 23 June 1968, age 77 years, Dundas (Esperance) district reg. no. 27
Caterina Epis died 6 March 1982, age 78 years

Antonio Epis is thought to have worked in mining about goldmining centre of Menzies, W.A.
In May 1941 he was detained and interned as an Enemy Alien(Italian)and spent time in camps at Harvey, Parkeston and Loveday and released 6 Dec 1943.
At the time of detainment Antonio stated he was a "dairy farmer" and his next of kin Katharina was resident at Menzies.

Another important site for searching Epis ect. is at the National Library of Australia Trove digitised newspapers (historical). Free Search Western Australian newspapers first

I have just contacted a person in W.A. with an interest in one of the Antonio Epis men. She had also visited Oneta c2006-8. No information is at hand yet, but I will mention your interest on this blogsite as I'm not at liberty to disclose her name or e-mail address.
Hoping this is your Antonio Epis.
