I'm sorry if this is a question you've already answered - I'm new to Italy and have been lucky enough to [so far] obtain records off various internet sights... which brought me here.

I too am hunting for Capobianco's - not a Crest, just some names/dates. (already know my family was poor) If you wouldn't mind, would you please advise the process of obtaining the films. I understand I'll have to pay for them... but who do I pay, how do I order... and if (when) I get them... what do i do with them?

Hi There,

Genealogy goes backwards. What I mean is that you start with yourself or grandfather and then start filling in the blanks of a Pedigree chart. You would list your grandfather's parents and what information you have on them and keep working backwards. Also, you need documentation for each individual to prove that is one of your ancestors.

Now knowing that, here is the link for the microfilm that the Family History Center has for the town of Carife. http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library ... =1&last=50

The film costs about $3.50 a roll depending on your location. On these films are copies of the actual Birth, Marriage, and Death Acts of your ancestors. Please note the films are in Italian.

A good book to get is "A Genelogist's Guide to Discovering Your Italian Ancestors" by Lynn Nelson.

Do you know the town that your ancstors came from? If you do then you can do a "place search" from the Family History Center to see if they have microfilm available for you town. Here is the link to do a place search.

Here's a link that I wrote about how to get microfilm from a Family History Center. The cost of microfilm did go up to $5.75 a roll.

If you don't know the name of the town, then tell us the name of your ancstor, his age, and where he settled; and we'll help you try to find the ship's manifest which could tell you where your ancstors were from. Also, you can send away for their Naturalization Records which might also tell you where they were from.

A good book to get is "A Genelogist's Guide to Discovering Your Italian Ancestors" by Lynn Nelson.

The information, as it's been passed to me by relatives: My g'grandfather, Carmine Antonio Capobianco b: 07/07/1891 came over in 1907. In 1914 he married Maddalena Capone b: 05/24/1898 in PA.

Maddalena's parents: Rocco Capone b: 08/1857 and Carmela DeFeo b: 03/1860 married in 1883 - came to America in 1886 & 1887 (the didn't come together, he came over first)

I recently obtained the Philadelphia marriage license for Carmine and Maddalena; her mother's maiden name is spelled Difeo (opposed to what I've been told is DeFeo - but not unusual to see changes of that nature) His parents are listed as Marciano and Maria (maiden name: Nudo or Nuda, can't quite make out that last letter) both in Italy.

My father knows little to nothing about any of them prior to their arrival, he says "The Capone family came from a small town of Avellino, near Frigento." and believes the Capobiancos were from the same area.

I have found the ship manifest for Rocco Capone - but nothing for Carmela Capone or Carmine Capobianco. I've searched for every combination of spellings - stopped just short of looking at them one page at a time.

I'm seconds away from checking out the links you posted (thank you!) In your experience, how difficult is it to get records from Italy... next to impossible without knowing the exact location, I'd guess. I'm learning none of the names I have are unique, and they all came from Avellino! Road Trip??
