Can't read Dondiego draft card

Post by CiaoGina »

Looking specifically for the mother's name of Vincenzo Dondiego. I can't make it out. Or is it even on here? From Ancestry.com

I do not see Vincenzo's mother's name written on this card.
It does mention that he is single and supports his mother.

But from this birth record for Vincenzo Dondiego from San Fele in 1895...(from the birth place and date on his draft registration card above)
His mother's name is Maria Giuseppa Rinaldi, wife of Berardino Dondiego :-)

Record #210
Dated 5 October 1895 at 9 AM at the town office in San Fele
Before the official appeared Berardino Dondiego, age 45, peasant farmer residing in San Fele, to declare that at 2 AM on the 2nd of the current month at the place at Via Iametta(sp?), to Maria Giuseppa Rinaldi, his wife living with him, was born a male child, who he presented and to whom was given the name VINCENZO

Thank you so much for this. I am trying to solve a puzzle. My gr gr grandmother Rosa De Maio came to Ellis Island to meet her 'husband Lorenzo' (his name was Sebastiano)in 1898. With her where a 1 yr old named Lorenzo Dondiego, a 14 yr old Antonio Lorenzo (to meet his Uncle Sebastiano so i figure his mother's surname is Lorenzo)and a 20 yr old M. Lucia to meet her husband. I am trying to figure out if Antonio is MY Sebastiano's nephew or another. I have found no info for M. Lucia or Lorenzo Dondiego (i.e. census) but I did fine some census info that makes sense for Antonio. Then up pops Vincenzo on Ancestry.com as a hint who would have been born a year later than Antonio and was also born in San Fele. I guess he could have been a different Dondiego because his parents names don't add up. So who were these Dondiegos exactly?

And once agin the pieces of the puzzle fall into place! I actually see Pietroangelo on the cert.-Perfect.Looks like this is 1895. Once again thank you so much! Another child of Rosa and Pietroangelos. I knew there must be others-too much of a gap between Teresa and Sebastiano. I did also find Rinaldos in the US on a census. Now on to find more siblings!

Would anyone like to help translate the first few entries of this ship manifest? More Lorenzos and Dondiegos. I am particularly interested in who they are going to stay with.

And do you think Antonio Palerma is with them? Maybe husband of someone Lorenzo?

Can I make a donation to this website????

I do believe all 4 folks are travelling together.

Here's what I can make out:

Antonio going to 773 Washington St, NYC to join brother in law Giovanni Lorenzo
Arcangelo going to same address, same person who is his cousin
Berardino also going to 773 Washington to join his uncle Giuseppe (no surname--I cannot make out the writing after the street address
edited to add: I believe it says "and 3 brothers"
Domenico going to 322 3rd Avenue to join his uncle Francesco ??
