Question on compound names
How should a compound name be recorded? For example, would a name like Domenico Antonio be Domenico Antonio, Domenicantonio, or Domenic'Antonio? I know that some records may indicate Domenicantonio, but other records would say Domenico Antonio. This has been bugging me for some time, as I have a bunch of people in my family tree with compound names but I am unsure how exactly to record them in my tree.

Re: Question on compound names
The civil record is the legal one. My sister-in-law always thought her name was Lorenzina Gabriella, her civil record showed Lorenzina Gabriela. The change in pronunciation is quite significant. She had to change her identity card!

Re: Question on compound names
But for compound names with the fist name ending in a vowel and the second name beginning with one (i.e. Domenico Antonio, Giovanna Angela), would the two names be contracted as one?

Re: Question on compound names
If the declarent states the two names run together as in in Domenicantonio that's how it will be registered. If he separates the names, giving them one at a time then they will be separate. As in Domenico Antonio. In the first case he will likely be called by both names (Domenanton for short) In the second case he will most probably go by one or the other name.
