Fontanella family

Post by Florrcita »

Hi:

My grandfather was Giovanni Fontanella. He was born in Rossano, Cozensa in 1906 I believe.
I don´t know much but he had 7 sisters. His fahter was Ferruccio Fontanella. He was married to Carolina Aloe from the same town, but I am not sure if he got married in Italy or Argentina
He emigrated to Argentina and has 1 boy and two girls
Any information will help
Thank you very much!

Welcome to IG website
Your best bet is to go to a Family History Library and get the his birth record on microfilm which might have the info on a sidenote you seek on it

Thank you Marty, but is not him :(

When you say to go to the Family history Library, you mean in his town?

I will be going to Italy in a few weeks. I will only spend two days...where should I start? .All I have from my grandfather is his passport. Do you think I will have any luck with that?
On the other hand I will stop in Rome and I would love to find my grandmother's family
Her name was Carolina, her father Saverio and her mother Sofia. Her dad move to Argentina I believe after the second war. Can you help me with that?

Thank you again

HI!
I am soooo excited! I think we are (or you actually) on the right path! I just received a picture of Felicia Nigro's grave (1879-1951) where you can see written on the right side of the grave "Ferruccio Fontanella (1920-1943)" so I am thinking this is a son she had and died really young and that is why I always was under the impression that my grandfather had only sisters.
I have another picture from 1940 sent by Ferrucio saying...."Tuo fratello, Imperia 3-28-1940"and he is wearing military clothes.
Gennaro really rings a bell, he could be my great-grandfather

Then I have another pictures where I can see my grandfather and I believe his sisters.
The names showing are: Ida, Giovanni (him), Giuseppina, Crisei, Franca, Elisuccia, Felicitta, Aurora and Elda. The picture was taken in "Porruoli" in 1947. I looked for that as a city and I couldn't find it, the writting is pretty bad
My gradnfather was defenetly no Maurizio Alfredo (unless they took those names when he got his passport) but he did named one of his daughters Elisa.

I can't wait for you answer. Thank you so much!

I am guessing she is burried in Rossano. I've never heard of them moving. Do you know if Elisa got married? if, yes, do you know to whom? So I can do a search on her
When you say he was borned at San Nico, do you mean San Nicola Arcella?
Is it possible to get the address of the actual house?
I would love to go to the actual house

Thank you so much for helping me!

It is possible to get
1) Marriage license for any of the sisters? that was I can try to search for their descendats.
2) How about the address where my grandfather and their sisters were borned? I would love to go to the actual house.
It is possible to keep going further in the past? I mean, to get birth info about Gennaro and Felicia?

Sorry if I am asking to much, you have not idea how important this is for me

I don't want to abuse your help, but I will be stopping in Rome (I will be there a little longer so I will have more time than in Rossano) and I would like to find my grandmother's family (Giovanni's wife)
Her name was Carolina Aloe, she had a sister.
Their dad's name was Saverio Aloe and his wife Sofia. They moved to Argentina
My grand parents had 3 children, Elisa, Juan Jose (my dad) and Mary (I believe)
I am sorry I cannot give you more info, everyone is dead :(

Thank you again

Do you have a birthdate for Carolina Aloe?
The marriage records you would have to get at the town of Rossano when you visit because the records online only go to 1910 they were probally married in the late 1920-1930's
The home address on the birth record I think it is via San Nico but there is no address number on the record there is a church on via San Nico named S. Gaetano Catanoso

I found this birth record with the father Saverio Aloe mother not Sofia
Birth record of Michelina Aloe
INDEX#267
1900 May 19th in the town of Rossano at house in contrada Piragineto birth of Michelina Aloe daughter of Saverio Aloe age 50 farmer and Christina Laria

PG LINK TO RECORD
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/T ... 1954018568

I looked for Carolina Aloe birth record didn't see nothing under the name Carolina but 1904 births are incomplete only go to April of that year
But I did find the marriage record of Gennaro Fontanella and Felicia Nigro.

INDEX#104
1898 Nov 26th in the town of Rossano appeared Gennaro Fontanella age 22 barrel maker born in Rossano son of deceased Giovanni Fontanella and Maria Grazia Capalbo married Felicia Nigro age 19 born in Rossano daughter of Giovanni Nigro and Maria Francesca Pirillo
