Altavilla Irpina

Post by patbruno »

I am researching my family from Altavilla Irpina (AV). I would like to access local church records. Can anyone tell me how many churches there might have been in the town around 1900 and the names? Also, does anyone know of the best way to contact local churches? (I have tried through different websites but assistance is spotty at best.) Thank you.

Welcome to the IG website.
What names and dates are you looking for?
You know there are records births, marriages, banns, deaths, miscellaneous documents, 10-year indexes of Altavilla Irpina 1809-1899 on film at Family History Library to rent and view and copy

PG LINK
https://familysearch.org/search/catalog ... %20Library
It would be easier to access civil records than the church records

patbruno,
my father's family is from altavilla. are you looking for a particular name? date? I have some of the indexes. if you rent the films, the number of births/deaths/marriages are not very many. for me, this made the research go more quickly.

good luck,
donna

To answer your question - yes, I am searching for Francesca Bruno (DOB 15 december 1882) and Gioacchino Cotone (DOB 28 february 1878). Francesca had two sisters (Assunta and Magdalena) and one brother (Salvatore, I believe). Assunta remained in Altavilla Irpina and married a Musco; Magdalena emigrated to the US and married George Cerullo. Supposedly, Salvatore died in WWI. I also have Francesca's parents' names (Gaetano Bruno [but not the one on your list - looks like he's too young] and Domenica Saterialle).
Gioacchino was adopted. The only name I have is of his adoptive father, Michelangelo Divertis (the spelling is mine).
This is amazing. Thank you so much for your help.

pat,
i am still actively researching my paternal ancestry in altavilla, i haven't viewed all the microfilms available...the current names are troisi, lombardi, and villani. i have a bernadino lombardi who married silvestra bruno. i don't have the marriage date and currently i have 4 children born between 1889 - 1894.

i looked at the indexes i have up to this point but i do not have the dates you have mentioned.
