Hi, abt your Antonio Palermo
U.S., World War I Draft Registration Cards, 1917-1918 about Toney Palermo
Name: Toney Palermo
City: Philadelphia
County: Philadelphia
State: Pennsylvania
Birthplace: Italy
Race: Caucasian (White)
Draft Board: 22
no birthdate (no able to specify) born in "Sumarca, Italy" birthplace mispelled...
clearly....
maybe San Marco Argentano, Cosenza province, but I cannot find his birth record in San Marco Argentano around 1870/1/2, just one but born in 1866..
married 2 times: first wife: Rosina Mazziotta; second wife: Rosa Maria De Napoli
but you said that her maiden name was Ferraro so cannot be right Antonio...

it is a mystery where and when Antonio Palermo was born...
I found a possible arrival:
First Name: Antonio
Last Name: Palermo
Ethnicity: Italy, Italian
Last Place of Residence: S. Denato (San Donato di Ninea, Cosenza province)
Date of Arrival: Jan 20, 1900
Age at Arrival: 27 Gender: M Marital Status: M
Ship of Travel: La Normandie
Port of Departure: Havre
Manifest Line Number: 0018
joining at brother Giuseppe in Philadelphia
http://www.ellisisland.org/EIFile/popup ... &line=0018
and San Donato di Ninea is the right birthplace of first daughter, because I found the birthact of Angela Palermo born in San Donato di Ninea on 2 Apr 1899 #29 from Antonio Palermo 26 old, farmer and Rosa Ferraro:

Grazie! I first researched everything I could find in San Marco Argentano, but it was the wrong family. After digging around and calling lost relatives, who do not know the exact town, but felt it was around Consenza. That was a big help finding the birth record for their daughter! That must be the correct ship record as he had a brother by that name.

There was some talk that Rose was a hard core Sicilian, but I have found no evidence of her parents to track that.

I will keep searching for their marriage certificate, birth certificate for both Antonio and Rose, and the ship Rose came to the US on. I know she arrived a few years after Antonio.

Thanks for your help! Karen

Again, suanj and Marty...that is such great work. Marty are you related to this Palermo family? Is San Donato di Ninea a good commune to work with to extract these records? I plan to write, with help, a letter in Italian to the commune.

Thanks, Karen

Translation help: I am investigating the second page of the matrimonial certificate...I can understand some Italian, but about half way down I see the name Mauro, Rosa....would that be a maid-of-honor, or a person related to the family? I would like to understand what the name is doing on the document. Thanks.

Ferraro Filomena was called( from all) Rosa (instead of Filomena real first name):
"2° Ferraro Filomena, comunemente Rosa, di anni ventidue, contadina, nata a San Donato di Ninea, residente a San Donato di Ninea, figlia di Raffaele, residente a San Donato di Ninea, e di Panebianco Palma, residente a San Donato di Ninea." The witnesses was Bisignani Raffaele and Gabrielli Giuseppe..
I no see a Mauro on the document...

In the 1930 census it says that Antonio's status was Italian.... I once thought he naturalized in 1922, but I now believe it to be the wrong person. I believe his wife, Rosa naturalized in 1933 in Philadelphia. Do you find this to be the case as well? You would think that they would naturalize together.
Thanks, karen

sorry I know not.. it are some Antonio Palermo naturalization in Pennsylvania on ancestry.com, but 2 records are no abt your ancestors.. that is sure because these Antonio Palermo was more youngs of your Antonio.. the other records.. are no data, just the name so it is hard to say if the Antonio Palermo naturalized in 1923 is the right person... I believe he no naturalized, just Rose, his wife in 1933:
U.S. Naturalization Record Indexes, 1791-1992 (Indexed in World Archives Project) about Rose Palermo
Name: Rose Palermo
Birth Date: abt 1877
Age at event: 56
Court District: Pennsylvania
Date of Action: 17 Apr 1933

Thanks for the confirmation. I will take a closer look as well. Rose's name on the ship manifest is Filomena, she traveled with Angela, the baby. I am grateful for your help.
