Maria Michela Di Paola Death record

Post by misschristi16 »

Record #12, Maria Michela Di Paola, daughter of Domenico and Elisabetta Savone
Married to Pietro Pinto. (does it say if he is deceased? and if so, where is that on the record and how do I read it--what word means deceased?)
Record is dated 17 March 1915, is that the date of death also?
She was "settentatre"--73?? Any other pertinent info would be great! Thanks!

oggi = today. so the date of death is also the date of record - 17th Dec

moglie di Pietro Pinto = wife of Pietro Pinto.

if a person is dead you usually see "fu" or "defunto"

if Pietro was dead at the time of his wife's death, she would have been his widow and the record would have indicated this as "vedova di Pietro Pinto."

hope that is helpful

That helps alot! Thanks Donna. I am still learning.
Some things still confuse me--numbers--some numbers look like 3's and 5's or 7's and 1's. But, tidbits like the phrase "vedova di Pietro Pinto" is something I can see and remember. One more question--is the phrase the same if he is a widower? Or does Vedova change?

a widower would be vedovo.

the numbers can still be a challenge for me also. it can depend so much of the legibility of handwriting.

from the learning centers link at familysearch.org. there are some short presentations on reading the script and examples are given. i have found them helpful.

Thanks! I will check them out. I was just asking for translations, but found the guide on this website. Now, I just leave it open and read more. Probably cuz I found my family to be bigger than expected, so I wanted to learn to do it on my own and so I dont take advantage of such a great service on this sight. Plus, it may help me know these little bits of language should I ever get to Italy! :-)
