Birth-Death-Birth: same guy?

Hello everyone!

I've been doing some research for a friend and would like to get an opinion on the following documents. What I *think* I have is a birth record for Giuseppe Magnanimo dated September 1877, a death record for the same person dated June 1878, and then a new birth record dated January 1886. All records are from Ruoti, Potenza

As you know, it was not uncommon for a new child to be given the same name as a deceased child and I think that is what I am seeing here. However, there are just enough discrepancies to leave me uncertain.

The guy I am seeking married Anna Maria Errichetti in Italy in 1905 and they emigrated to the US a few years later.

I read the year on the death record as being 1873 and not 1878, so I don't see it as a death record for the child in the 1877 birth record. On both records though the parents' names match. On the third record, the mother's name in the body of the record reads Carmina Luongo instead of Carmina Zuccarella. However, in the margin it indicates that, with a judgment of the court on March 28, 1905, the birth record was rectified and that the mother's name should read Caterina Zuccarella. So now it's saying the correct first name of the mother is Caterina and not Carmina. So, even though the father's first names match, I don't know that you have a match if the mothers were different, unless Carmina Zuccarella had died and, by 1886, her husband was remarried to a sister of hers. Certainly not an impossibility.

Thanks for retrieving these other records. Interesting is that the mother's name on the marriage record is Carmina but in the annotation on the birth record is Caterina.

I believe that "Caterina", in the annotation, is a mistake done by the Civil Record Officer.

I would assume the same thing based on the marriage record, but it does make things confusing.
