you might see if there is anyone listed in the Italian phonebook to whom you could write, but you will only find names for people with land lines

Thank you my cousins are on Facebook and tried that.
I spoke to the Italian Consulate in NYC and they said
To write the mayor of the town but I don't know
Which town to write to. Grotte or Racalmuto

If you find any of your relatives married a "Puma", please let me know as mine came from Racalmuto too. Use the following website to find more ancestors - https://familysearch.org/s/collection/l ... The records that use pre-printed forms are easiest to follow but even the totally handwritten forms generally utilize a common format. It reads - Vincenzo Morreale, a boy, was born on the 19th of June, 1886 at 4 Ziabetta Street in Racalmuto to parents Giuseppe Morreale, age 30, profession - trafficker (dealer/merchant) and Filippa Cino, his wife. If you know your grandfather's exact birth date, this would confirm that this is him and not possibly a cousin named after a common grandfather.

Finding records of living relatives is nearly impossible due to government privacy laws. Usually there is a 75 to 100 year waiting period before the records are allowed to go public. You need luck - such as a person with another family tree finding you and it happens to be a match of the relatives you want and they are related to that relative. Facebook searches can sometimes work, but usually too many people have the same name or the surname has changed due to marriage (though Italian women keep their maiden names, but their children will take on the surname of their father).

I think you would be wasting your time and money trying to pay someone to find live relatives. I would try going to Facebook - "Find Friends" and put the last name and the name of the town to see who comes up. Then try contacting them with a pre-written Italian paragraph of how you are trying to find relatives. It's a long shot, but it may be your best shot.
