Sorry that I can't make out the word after the word Contrada. It's not a current street in the town, as far as I can tell.

Forgot to tell you that the one witness was a Michele Martone, son of dec Giuseppe, age 66, peasant/farmer in the town. I don't know if this is the same Michele who was the father of the infant's mother, Maria Giuseppa Martone. The relationship of this witness is not specified in this record, so it may be a coincident that his fist name is the same, but maybe not.

Re: Telese, Michele Birth
Just an FYI, Telese is the original family name of Gay Talese's family. He makes note of it in his excellent memoir/chronicle "Unto The Sons".

Thank you! I will order that book from my library. Do you know if the family came from Frigento?

His immediate family is from Calabria, comune di Maida, Catanzaro province I believe. He does discuss that the roots of the family name are in Campania someplace... I don't remember but could be. The name was changed by one of his ancestors, you'll have to read why.
It is a terrific read, with a wide scope.....pulls you right in. Hope you enjoy it.

Pippo, is that place of birth in reference to Gay Talese's family? And where is that in relation to Frigento?

There's currently a Contrada Sterpara di Fratta in Frigento. Possibly the same street whose named somehow got shortened and respelled over the years.
