At 11 am on 28 Dec 1901 in the comune of Valle Agricola the following death report was made, by Giacomantonio Pezza (38), farmer, resident of Valle Agricola, and Antonio Fannotta (63), farmer, resident of Valle Agricola. They stated that at 4 pm on the previous day [the 27th], at house #21 on Via Sferracavalli [the street name], the following person died:
Angela Mendozzi (73), midwife, resident of Valle Agricola, born in Piedimonte di Alife [=Piedimonte d'Alife], daughter of the late Angelo [Mendozzi] (farmer, who resided in Piedimonte di Alife) and the late Maria Gaetana Pico (farmer, who resided in Piedimonte di Alife), spouse of Giuseppe Pezzullo.

That is, Angela Mendozzi's husband was Giuseppe Pezzullo. It doesn't state that she was a widow or that he was deceased, so it was possible that he was still alive (but I suppose this would depend on whether that sort of info was normally indicated in the death records of this town; that varied from place-to-place and year-to-year).

There are also the names of 2 witnesses to the report and the name of the official who wrote the report down. The stuff in the margin just concerns the fact that it's the last record of the collection of death records for that year.

FamilySearch.org used to have several great articles on deciphering Italian records and handwriting; the new website makes it extremely difficult to find these now, but you might try searching the blog and/or wiki.

Also, if you are seriously researching Italian records, be on the lookout for a copy of this book: http://www.amazon.com/Italian-Genealogi ... ord+r+cole

It is well worth the investment.

[edit]

I found what I was looking for with Google search instead of FamilySearch's own search tool:

My hobby is finding things. Having found most of my own, I am happy to help others find theirs. PM me! :)

Great!! Thank you.

Just saw that the Piedimonte d'Alife records are not online. That's a bummer. Will add that to the list for the Family research center field trip.
