Re: surname Galli
Hi: personally, from that I can understand by previous postings of Kenneth Manson, and if this postings really are about your ancestors, well I understand that Peter was born abt 1884, travelled in 1902 http://ellisisland.org/search/shipmanif ... 2730050404
and Albert Dean ( aka Umberto) born abt 1886, travelled in 1903 joining the Pietro brother: http://ellisisland.org/search/shipmanif ... 2614160342

Re: surname Galli
In addition.....
The location of the port from which he sailed, is not necessarily near to where he lived. People from Sicily traveled to Naples to catch a ship even though there was a port in Sicily in Palermo. People in the North went to Le Havre in France, etc. The last residence is important, place of birth is important, but they could have left from any port. So please bear that in mind.
Good luck in your continued search...

Re: surname Galli
Essgee - I was thinking about that last night when I was looking at the towns suanj gave me on a map. Albert doesn't necessarily have to be from a port town- like you said. They could have lived anywhere.
suanj - The Peter in Elko, Nevada is not the same as my great uncle Peter. My mother visited with this old man years ago when I was young. He ran a store in the Elko area, and remembers "our Pete" coming from prison trying to make some money by **SPAM** things he had made in prison. He never saw Pete again.
Also,
Tell me what you mean by "NO Apulia... in Apulia the Galli surname no diffused.. Galli is an surname of north Italy.. in south are Gallo most diffused, as also in all Italy...."
Thanks,
Judd

Thank you for the reply.
GALLI, PETER 1154
1904 NSP-0007
I have in my posession copies of all the photos and records from the prison file. I went back over them again and there is no record of birth, parents, birthplace, or anything like that. I was hoping for that when I sent to the Nevada Archives, that there would be a clue as to where in Italy he was born, or parents names or something! But there are no clues.
also,
I have the marriage records of Albert to both of his wifes. Amanda and Lumena. One thing that we did learn from the marriage certificates, is that he was born in Italy.
We feel that the reason he claimed to be born in California, is because he worked for the U.S. Postal Service delivering mail in Nevada and Utah. He wouldn't have been able to work for the government if he wasn't a citizen. So when we got a copy of the marriage certificate and he wrote that he was born in Italy, that told us that he was not born in California.
I guess with any research, you have to read and sort and go through the process of elimination to find the truth.
thanks again. It's great to have input from others.

I will have my sister check out the Galli's from Midway. She lives up there pretty close.
I have a contact that I can email and have him check out the Pete in the newspaper in 1950. It may be his father.
thanks

It's been a while since I've posted. I have appreciated all of your help. We are still doing some research.
I have decided that since no one is looking for Albert and Peter Galli - I am going to have a web site that perhaps the right person will stumble across and have the information that we need.
I am gathering all of the pictures and information, and my son is going to build the website and publish it.
We have looked for so many years to find our family, perhaps they will find us.
Thanks again for all the help and support. I have been reading the postings and they are very helpful even though it isn't for my family directly. It still helps to know how to go about doing the research.
