MAYBE ... the surname should be Cingola... which would sound like Chingola..

Maybe the census taker used a "soundex" form when filling in the surnames...

Only 2 Chingola show up when doing an Ancestry.com search...but more when I do a Cingola.

Here is an example of a Cingola... I don't know who he is though.

Philadelphia Passenger Lists, 1883-1945 Record
about Andrea Cingola
Name: Andrea Cingola
Arrival Date: 8 Mar 1914
Age: 45 years
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1869
Gender: Male
Ethnic Background: Italian (South)
Port of Departure: Naples, Italy
Ship Name: Stampalia
Port of Arrival: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Friend's Name: Pasquale Montagna
Last Residence: Italy
Birthplace: Tocre, Italy

Hope this helps... please note the Birthplace Tocre, Italy... which also isn't correct spelling....

I have to run out the door here but will try to contribute more later...

Hi Marzilla,

Had a look at the visual manifest and the surname is Cingolo and and not Cingola as transcribed...

Town is Torre del Greco... (this is what is shown on Andrea's manifest mentioned above..)

-------------------

Here are just a few Cingolo's found on the Ellis data base...

1 Cingolo,Aurello Toriedel Greco, Italy 1911 9 1902
2 Cingolo,Cristofaro Toriedel Greco, Italy 1911 11 1900
3 Cingolo,Nunziata Toriedel Greco, Italy 1911 45 1866
4 Cingolo,Pietro Latiano, Lecce 1914 30 1884
5 Cingolo,Vincenso Toriedel Greco, Italy 1911 14 1897
6 Cingoloni Simioni,Santa Monte S. Gusto, Italy 1912 39 1873
----------------------------

If your person of interest is not on this list, please give details... I am sure someone will look it up for you.
