Marriage document

Post by chickenwoman »

I believe there were multiple marriages in this document. I would appreciate sorting this out.

Thank you,

Dated June 16, 1751
Banns were announced during the Mass and resulted in no impediments to the marriage.
The groom: Antonino Sanfilippo was the son of deceased Filippo and deceased Antonina Sanfilippo. He was the widower of deceased Saveria Parisi of the city of Monreale.
The bride was Francesca di Gristina, the daughter of deceased Cosmo and living Lorenza di Gristina. She was the widow of Lorenzo Renna of the city of Monreale.
Witnesses were Clerico Don Castrenze Longo and Rosario Cammara, both of Monreale.

Thank you very much for the great translation. Is what looks to be Monte, Monreale?

You're very welcome. Yes, the priests wrote Monte in these records for Monreale. Often in the church records you find that town names, and sometimes even surnames, are spelled differently from how they are written in the civil records. Monreale is actually a contraction of the words Monte and Reale, which means "royal mountain." I understand the reference is to a palace built there by Roger I of Sicily.
