Post by oldrustyknight »

Need help in locating any information on these family names - My Great Grandfather - Dominic Ingrassano (d. 1929) m. Filippa Nicotra (d. 1934)(Mirabella Imbarccari, Sicily). They had some 21 kids - of which my Grandfather Vincenzo Ingrassano (b. 16 July 1869 (Caltagirone, Sicily)- d. 21 December 1923 (Rochester NY) m. 8 September 1897 - Francesca Baninna (b. 19 March 1880 Mirabella Imbarccari, Sicily - d. 21 December 1942 - Rochester NY) imigrated to the US in 1914-1915. My Grandmothers parents were: Joseph Baninna (no dates) and Angela Orlando (no dates) from Mirabella Imbarccari, Sicily.

My Aunts: Ida Ingrassano m. Veto Bonnano; Filippa Ingrassano m. Luigi Balsamo
My Uncle: Dominic (Donald Ingerson) Ingrassano m. Lucy Sinapoli

Any help would be greatly appreciated - chuck

Since you have several surnames that you wish to research, I would recommend that you follow the natural progression of starting at the end and working backwards from the USA to Italy so thaty you will amass the information you need to obtain odcuments in their twons of origin which is full name, date or year of birth and town of origin. Should you require the services of translations of form letters and the like then when you get to the point in your research then get back to me. www.ellisisland.org is a good place to obtain most of the information you will need. Will try this again - I've records going back to about 1800 on two of the four lines and back to the 1830's on the other two. What I need assistance on is find the parents names prior to 1830's for all four families. I know that came to the US about 1910 - my Grandfather Ingrassano died in a cave-in in Rochester NY 1922.

If anyone who reads Italian can assist I would greatly appreciate it - my step-mother insisted we neither spoke or read Italian.

Thank you for your time - chuck/ork

Hi Chuck,
there must be some error in the data you have, or your GM may have changed her name when she went to America.
I found this marriage in Mirabella Imbaccari, on Sep 4th, 1897:

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/T ... ,122781101

between Vincenzo Ingrassano, 28 yo, peasant farmer, born and residing in Mirabella, son of Domenico and Filippa Nicotra

and

Anna Bandino, 18yo, peasant, born and residing in Mirabella, daughter of deceased Giuseppe and Angela Orlando

From here on:

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/T ... ,121018401

you find the "Allegati" for the marriage; among them:

birth certificate of Vincenzo, who was born Jul 16th, 1869; father Domenico, son of Vincenzo, 25 yo, peasant farmer, residing in Mirabella; mother Filippa Nicotra, daughter of deceased Silvestro, 17 yo, residing in Mirabella.

birth certificate of Anna, who was born on Mar 14th, 1879, address via Stradonello; father Giuseppe, 30 yo, peasant, residing in Mirabella; mother Angela Orlando, "industriosa" (occupation)

death certificate of Giuseppe Bandino, who died on Mar 7th, 1891, in Mirabella, address via Largo Palazzo, aged 50; he was the son of Mario, and Giovanna Ferrera

These are the original records (the previous, as I said, are certificates):

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/T ... ,124608401

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/T ... ,124532001

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/T ... ,124602801

As usual, ages are not accurate:
if Giuseppe Bandino was 30 in 1879, he would have been born in 1849;
if he was 50 when he died, in 1891, he would have been born in 1841

This MIGHT be Sebastiana's father death record:

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/T ... ,124519001

Salvatore Signorello died on Nov 5th, 1866. He was 60 yo, peasant, born in Terrannova, but residing in Mirabella, son of Andrea and Sebastiana Vanella (?), both deceased (the fact that his mother's name was Sebastiana is in favour of him to be right person); husband in second marriage of Domenica Lombardo.
