Birth Record: Filomena Ottolino (No 2)

Post by AngelaGrace56 »

Here is one more child born to Vincenzo and Elena. So far, no sign of Michele's birth record? I'll keep going with it later in the day as I have another commitment shortly.

Birth Record No 347: Filomena Ottolino
Registered 1 November 1891, 10.50 am, Triggiano
Vincenzo Ottolino, 31, contadino (peasant farmer), living in this town, declared that at 3 pm on 30 of the past month (30 October) at a house in Via Ospedale, his wife Elena Rubino, donna di casa (housewife) gave birth to a female who he presented and gave the name Filomena. It says that Vincenzo was unable to sign the record as he was illiterate.

So I guess the first Filomena who was born in 1886 died. It was very common to name a subsequent child after the deceased sybling and especially in this case – Filomena being Vincenzo's mother's name.

Indeed she was. I was absolutely exhausted when I quickly typed this up after a very long day at work yesterday. (Yes, some people get rostered to work at the weekend :) ) I'm having issues with the antenati site as well, the magnifier isn't there any more so I have to save the images to my computer and then zoom in. It is somewhat tiring but great that I am still able to use the site.

The magnification at the antenati site has changed. Click on the document and you will get the document with a + and - at the top right to zoom in and out. You can also still move it up and down.

Thank you T. Yes, I do understand this but for some reason once I have zoomed by clicking the + it won't let me move the image up and down so I can only view a very small (but very expanded :) ) segment of the image? I've tried lots of different ways.

Try moving the scroll bar on the right (it controls the original page) - it will allow you to go further up and down on the zoomed page.

Thank you T. Yes, I have been trying that for the last three or so weeks, off and on, but it's just not happening. I can see the original page behind the zoomed image moving up and down but it is not happening on the zoomed page. I think it is still needing some fine tuning for some web browsers? I possibly need to update the one that I am using. I'll just leave it at the moment as I've got quite a lot on over the next little while. I'll get one of my computer cluey boys to sort for me when they are back. I keep forgetting to mention it to them. Thank you again.

Birth Record Michele Ottolino

Post by AngelaGrace56 »

Success at last! :D :D :D I am pretty sure that this is your Michele Ottolino, born 1883, not long after Vincenzo and Elena's marriage. He was obviously named after his paternal grandfather and went by the name Michele? I've posted both the link to the image and the image as well, just in case you are having similar issues to me with the antenati site.

Birth Record No 419: Vito Michele Ottolino
Registered: 19 December 1883, 11.15 am, Triggiano
Vincenzo Ottolino, 23, contadino (peasant farmer), living in this town, reported that at 2 (due) pm on 12 (dodici) of the current month (12 December 1883), at via San Martino, No 12, his wife Elena Rubino, contadina (peasant farmer) gave birth to a baby of the male gender who he presented and gave the name Vito Michele.
