Help translating document

Post by terrimls »

Hi, I just received a group of documents back from Sicignano. The following appears to be a birth certificate for my great grandfather Francesco Magarella but I am having a difficult time translating it. I can read from a reference to his marriage to my great grandmother Filomena Scala on October 18 1890 but am need some help with the main text of the birth certificate. I would very much appreciate any help anyone could give Many thanks. Terri Smith

father is luigi magarella, of deceased Feli [ce]? age 27, laborer,

mother luigia Prafone, daughter of Domeni [co]? age 29, residing at contrada Cafali, village of Terranova,

child named Francesco Antonio born 29 March 1866

18 oct 1890 marrioes filomena scala.

i am assuming the names are felice and domenico, given the beginning of the following line is not visible.

Hi Donna

One question - does the document say where Luigi and Luigia were born? If they were also born in Sicignano then I can request information on them as we can estimate birth year from the ages in this document. Thanks so much!

terri, from what i see, the birth act only states where they were domiciled at the time of the birth. you would find their town of birth on their birth and marriage acts.
