any thoughts on the bride's surname and the town where she was born?
also is the side note the closing of the register or is it related to the marriage?
thanks so much

Re: town and surname on marriage act
Bride = looks like Caterina Mantalipassi or Mantalipasi.....I've tried all sorts of combinations of this from Montelipazzi to Montalipaso....I can't find a single name that looks like whats on this record anywhere. So I'll vote for Mantalipassi.
Town = I'm seeing Picerno
Side note = Its hard to read, but if I had to guess, its probably a note about recognizing a child they had before the marriage who is now legitimate since they married.

TIP: When asking for records from Italy, do NOT ask for an "estratto." ALWAYS ask for a "copia integrale." A photocopy of the original Act will contain more information

thanks so much for you response. i thought the town began with a 'D' as it looks more like the 'd' in dicembre than the 'p'' in percio. i will also review the notation again to try and make out more of the words. it helps to have a context.
thanks again

Re: town and surname on marriage act
On second look, the note on the left seems to say nothing relevant:
"The year 1882, 1 January, in Volturara, blah blah mayor and Stato Civile official....
then it seems to be saying in compliance with some law declares the present registry to be number 48, Part 1 and 50 in the second part.
I don't know...it makes no sense to me in what it says, nor does it seem to actually mean anything for the marriage.

Re: town and surname on marriage act
the side note has to do with the town official closing the register-this is the last marriage act in part one and there are three in part II. He closed the register in execution of a royal decree dated in Nov of 1865. The closing of the register took place on Jan 1, 1882. This marriage act is dated Dec 29, 1881.

Re: town and surname on marriage act
Hi Donna
I am also reading that the bride's birth town is Picerno (Potenza, Basilicata) and that her surname in this record is spelt Mantalipassi. It doesn't seem to be a very common name though and I am wondering whether it is actually meant to be Mutalipassi which seems to appear in various towns in the province of Potenza?

thanks so much for your thoughts on this question. given the challenging handwriting, the more eyes the better! luckily the question of the surname very indirectly impacts my research.

Re: town and surname on marriage act
Happy to help. I'm also looking at some films at the moment and am finding the script in places a bit of a challenge. What makes it harder though is that the "reader/scanner" I'm using isn't the greatest. Perseverance and patience are always winners
