Mayor of Castelcivita, Salerno, Campania

Anyone have any info on Giovambattista Soldani who was appointed Mayor of Castelcivita in 1863. I believe he may be my great great grandfather. Would appreciate anything.

My family with the same name comes from this comune . Have you written the comune? Or the Archives in Salerno? Do you have a document regarding the appointment of Mayor?

I do not have any other records for Giovambattista. He did not come to America. I do have a document appointing him Mayor back in 1863. That document was given to me by my cousin Alfonso Soldani, who lives in Salerno. I am hoping that Giovambattista is my great great grandfather. My records only go back to my great grandfather named Alfonso (not the Alfonso in Salerno).

Yes "Pippo", Those documents are related to my family. I already have them. Thank you very much for providing them. Amleto Soldani is the brother of my grandfather, Ercole. They both came to America. Ercole to Boston and Amleto to New York. Amleto eventually settled in Somerville, Massachusetts.

You might write to the Commune of Castelcivita to request their "estratto integrale dell'atto di nascita". In it, you should find the age of their father Alfonso at birth (or even, if you are lucky, who Alfonso's father was), and so, his approximate birth year.
With that info, you could go further back requesting Alfonso's birth record to the Archivio di Stato di Salerno (National Archives).
