is Pinotto a nickname or a proper name?

Post by Fhaor »

That's my question, I had a grand father and they all called him Pinotto, but we don't know his real name, I mean, we can't find him  . That's my question.

I think that is:

Pinotto > Pino > Giuseppino > Giuseppe

and probably the real name is: Giuseppe.

Do you know his last name, approximate year of birth, and where he lived?
We may be able to help you find him.

thank you all for that answer, and my great uncle was Nicolas Merlo Guglielmetti, son of Domenico Merlo(we don't know his 2nd surname), who "changed" his name in Chile to Domingo(Domenico = Domingo in Spanish), all between 1890-1910. They came from Torino and I have found registers from Maria Maddalena, Carlo, Umberto, Severino, Catterina and Santiago, but nothing about Nicolas Merlo Guglielmetti or Giuseppe "Pinotto" Merlo Guglielmetti.

Is this the Santiago you mention above?

this is the child, Severino, born to the above couple, but in Torino, Italy... before traveling to Chile?

Domenico Merlo
mentioned in the record of Severino Merlo

oh thanks for that but we already know that info, we need to know where my great great grandfather is born. We think he's son of Giuseppe Merlo and Maria Argan, any info available about that, would be really appreciated
