Italian birth records

I am trying to find someplace on the internet that I can find birth records for Platania, Italy. Any hints????

Not on the internet. You can either go to FHL for micorfilm of civil records if record is prior to 1900 or write in italian to Ufficio di Stato Civile in Platania. Postal 88040, Province of Catanzaro, Calabria. Form letter at www.circolocalabrese.org. Send $5.00 and self addressed envelope. Peter

Wish we all could find birth records on the internet...

But...to see a copy of the original document... original script... original signatures of your great great relatives is very exciting.... and the only way you can achieve this is to visit your local Family History Library/Center and order film... which is so inexpensive.... $3.50 a month per roll??

At my center, if you rent the same roll 3X consecutively and it becomes permanent property of that Library...

Dear MFJP Your repetition of what I advised the inquirer is just that a repeat. You might have waited to see what reply he might have made and then waited to see what i advised him and then if you could ADD something meaningful, it would be appreciated. This way you did it is genealogy 101. Peter

I think when there are a variety of replies it helps everyone. Sometimes you put CLOSURE to too many posts, and intimidates others from helping out. I am talking about competence not feelings. Saying the same thing two ways is rather sophmoric and indicative of a need that is beyond genealogy. I have no problems with someone adding to an inquiry if there are more facets than previously covered and made more meaningful to the inquirer. Some inquirers do not even know what they don't know and have to be dealt with differently than someone who is adroit and knows something about genealogy. Just giving someone websites is not always the way to go. I resent your questioning my motives since competence is where I am at. Peter
