Help with Birth 1857

Post by James Graham »

I can make out some of this document but I'd like a reaffirmation of the details just to make sure.

Biagio Giovanni Mariorenzi
born 1 July 18(5)7 I have the index which is dated as 1857
born to Tommaso Mariorenzi age ? son of Biagio Mariorenzi
Rosalia Caprarelli age ?
They live in Monticelli.

There are other names but I just guess at them.
Also the occupations are too difficult for my comprehension.

I also read Rosalia's age being 30 and Tommaso's occupation being bracciale - farm hand/laborer. I can see the age being 30 something, not sure about 32. Also Tommaso's father was "deceased" Biago.

I've switched computers and can confirm that Tommaso's age is 32 as Biff has noted.

Thanks. Now this is supposed to be his brother but the ages of the parents don't add up since this is 1854.

Is there anything that I'm not picking up?

Tommaso was unable to write so he possibly didn't know his age either. It was very common to have variations in ages in these records. At a quick glance everything else seems to relate.

Is there something in the record that indicates he can't write?
I ask because my family knows that Biagio, his son, was educated.

If you look at the bottom of both records, above the signatures, I'm reading "non sapere scrivere" i.e. "do not know how to write" referring to the declarant (Tommaso) and the witness. Sometimes it will have the word "analfabeta" i.e. illiterate. Usually the witnesses and the declarant sign the records along with the official/s.

What is the wording that states Biagio deceased?
And on Silvestro's birth, it doesn't state that he has passed yet, correct?

You are very welcome for the help.

In the 1857 record it says "del fu" before Biago's name, which translates to "son of the late Biago". In the 1854 record Biago appears to be still alive so he must have died between the date of Silvestro's birth in 1854 and Biago's birth in 1857.
