Mazzola Family Castlebuono Sicily

Hello, I am researching my mother-in-law's family roots. Her mother, Vincenza Mazzola (maiden name) was borne April 3, 1897, probably in Castlebuono, Sicily. Vincenza's mother died when Vincenza was around two and unfortunately I don't have her mother's name. Vincenza's father was Luigi Mazzola (born Oct. 1866.). His father was Guiseppe Mazzola and his mother was Vincenza Baggese. I don't know if Vincenza's father and paternal grandparents were from Castlebuono. United States census records indicate that Vincenza arrived in the US in 1902 when she was 4 or 5. Luigi married again in 1908 in Manhattan, New York, to Olimpia and then moved to Garfield, New Jersey. I was hoping someone might offer suggestions for further research to find Vincenza's mother's information.

HOWEVER, none of them have father Luigi Mazzola
For reference - Births #160, 228, 256, 395

On the date you gave above in 1897 in Castelbuono (3 April) was born a child who was named Vincenza Valeriana, to a woman who did not consent to be named.

Is Vincenza Mazzola really Anna Mazzola?

In the 1930 US census, I have found Vincenza listed as Anna. So, I am not sure if Anna might be her real first name or her middle name or a nickname. I am also double checking her birthdate. Vincenza died Dec. 28, 1968 and her age was mentioned as 71, which would indicate birth in 1897. However, the 1910 US census indicates she was 11, which means she was born in 1898 or 1899. The 1930 census says she is 33, so she would have been born in 1897. I am going back through family papers to see if I have missed anything.

Hi again, it’s been 10 years and I am still looking for information on Luigi Mazzola and Vincenza Mazzola in Castlebuono.

The consensus is Vencenza’s birthday is April 3, 1897, born in Castlebuono. However, I have found that she also went by the name of Anna.

I have been trying to find if Luigi’s possible wife, Michaelangela Guarcello died. Michaelangela and Luigi were married February 13, 1890, in Castlebuono.

I have found multiple birth years for Luigi in US Census records, 1860, 1865, and 1866, but all with an October birth month. He arrived in New York possibly October, 1902. I found that he also had a sister, Giovannia, that arrived in New York in November of 1902. In 1903 Giovannia married Dominick Venterella, who was also from Castlebuono, in the Inited States in 1903.

To add to the confusion in the information from 10 years ago, the only Vincenza born on April 3, 1897, is Vincenza Valeriano born on April 3, 1897, in Castlebuono. The civil birth record does not list the mother or father. I recently found a ship passenger list showing that Vincenza Valeriano, age 5 or 6 (difficult to read), arrived in New York, 11/20/1903. She is listed to go to her uncle, Luigi Mazzola. Accompanying Vincenza on the ship was Concetta Di Paola of Castlebuono, age 29, who is listed to go to her cousin, Luigi Mazzola. Concetta is listed as single, but there is a smudged entry that might say “widow.”

In the United States 1910 census, there is a Vincenza listed as daughter to Luigi Mazzola and his new wife Olimpia. She is the correct age to be Vincenza that was born in 1897.

I have not been able to find any further info on Concetta Di Paola.
