Naturalization Records for Antonio Manolio (I have his SS#)

Post by SeanMann »

I also have his death certificate, which has his SS# on it. It also lists his "Birth Country" as Italy, and his "Citizen of What Country" as Italy.

His approximate age and birthday are Feb 2, 1885

He died on April 11, 1982

Is it safe to give a SS# online?

He lived in Brooklyn.

Hi SeanMann...

We see SS# online many times when we look for people... you don't have to publish his # if you don't want to... we don't have access to his Naturalization personal information online either.. so not to worry...

Here's some info that may help should you wish to order documents.

http://www.immigration-records.com/natu ... ecords.asp

Is it the Italian town you are looking for? There are a number of great researchers here who won't mind helping you out.

What's it like living in Thailand? I would rather be in Florida right now... it's just a little too cold here right now...

Hi: your Anthony also on the draft card is wrote only Italy as birthplace http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/2258/m ... ard7wp.jpg
the birthdate is 3 Feb 1885..

but are an Antonio Manolio with same 2 children of 1920 census( john and Josephine) in 1910 census..

http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/4072/m ... 9106jn.jpg

are some discrepance abt emigration year however, but could be same your Anthony and the interesting thing is that neighbor was Vincenzo Manolio most probaly the brother.. I think that this Manolios was from Basilicata region... perhaps Rotondella town...

and in 1930 census of Brooklyn (first page; in the second page are always same children) the year of immigration is 1906 and alien ...

Hi,

You state his death certificate lists his birth place as Italy and upon his death he was a citizen of Italy. If the person who provided the death certificate information was correct, he died without being naturalized. If he had been naturalized he would have died a citizen of this county.

Just a note - you did not have to be a citizen of the US to collect SS. I have 2 grandparents in my own family that never became citizens, but did collect SS.

Hi There,

I have a question for you, since you have his death certificate, did it list who his mother was?

This is all possible clues in order to find out information for your Antonio.

If that Vincenzo that is living next door to Antonio in the 1910 census is his brother, it states that his mother, Rosa was living with them. The death certificate for Antonio would help prove if his mother was Rosa.

The other clue from this census is that both Antonio and Vincenzo name their first born son, Giovanni which could mean they are brothers and their father is Giovanni.

Also, per this census, Antonio's mother-in-law is living with them. This is all great clues.

Also, if this Vincenzo was Antonio's brother, then here is his ship's manifest coming into the USA with his wife, Maria Antonia. They are from
Rotondella.

http://ellisisland.org/search/shipManif ... 4071080085

If this is all true, then the Family History Center does have microfilm for the town of Rotondella. Here is the link for the film numbers

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library ... =1&last=50

Here is the link to find the nearest Family History Center.

I hope some of this helps,

Hi Again,

It states he was still an Alien according to the 1930 census.

I hope this helps.

9 months ago I sent away for the required documents "Certificate of No Record of Naturalization". I didnt recieve anything and called them. They checked my file and said the paperwork was completed but I would have to wait 9-12 months for them to mail it to me.

Is there any way to expediate the process?

Hi There,

If you went through NARA, then the expected wait time is any where from 9 months to a year for a reply.

Here is a form that you can use and send it to the NY - Northeast Division of NARA.

http://www.italiangen.org/Naturalizatio ... enSite.pdf

Now I'm a little confused.

Per the 1910 census, it stated that Antonio was an Alien.
Per the 1920 census, it stated that Antonio had Petitioned for Naturalization.
Then the 1930 census of Antonio it stated he was still an Alien.

Now per my knowledge, "ususally" when a person is registered for the WWI Draft Cards, there is an extremely high chance that they were Naturalized shortly after 1918-1925. However, that's not always the case.

Also, there is a chance that Antonio did file for the Petition of Naturalization, but never finished the process.

Make sure when writing that you give as much information as possible including the various spellings (Atnonio or Anthony) etc.

I also found this which may be helpful. If this is your Antonio, he did fild for a Petition (Declaration of Intent) but doesn't mean he finished the process of getting Naturalized.

Index to Declaration of Intent for Naturalization:
New York County, 1907-1924

Name: Antonio Manolio
Declaration Volume: 335
Declaration Page: 112

This could be your Antonio in the 1942 Draft Cards.
Name: Antonio Manolio
Birth Date: 2 Feb ??85
Residence: Kings, New York
Birth: Potundelli, Italy
Race: White
Roll: WW2_2370182

I hope this helps,
Trish

He petitioned for naturalization in 1917, two years after my grandma was born. However, he never followed through. I have this document. He never followed through.

He was never in the army.

I sent away to Lee's Summit MO. They said that my file had been completed, and determined "NO Records", however it will still be another 9-12 months before they mail it back to me.

Right now, I just need birth certificates(havent begun to look) and the "Certificate of No Naturalization" document from Lees Summit MO.
