You're very welcome, Steve. I hate giving up, but possibly these witnesses will show up in some other record for that time period. They are really not important witnesses in this particular marriage record. I just hate it when I can't decipher the handwriting. I also still think Antonina's parents are from some other town, and that abbreviation is driving me crazy. That might be info you would want at some point, should you decide to trace her line. I was considering Acireale in Catania Province for that one, but really can't say that is correct, although the surnames are found there. That really is all I'm doing with this record for the time being. I just came back to it because of Pippo posting this morning.

I was thinking the same thing about Palma, even yesterday, and was just looking to see if the first name even exists in that town, which I see it does. Even though the Pal was clear to me, I just kept seeing nue as the ending.

Anyway, can you tell the names of the witnesses in the marriage record? I am completely stuck on the first name of the first witness (I just keep thinking of the Italian first name Anselmo-but the A in Aceste is not formed the same way as the beginning of this name which may be St). I'm also stuck on the middle and last part of Giuseppe's name. The last part may be Ponzo. I actually see Porrea but that is not a Sicilian surname.

It's really hard to read to me! Maybe Marcello might be able to read it...
My guess (with much fancy) for first witness's name is "Gulielmo"
When you talk about an abbreviation, do you mean the one before "Calataphimis" and after "olim coniug"?
I'm thinking just now that it might be "civi(tati)s". So it should read "olim coniugibus huius civitatis" ("of this town", for Sacesta)

Go to where you see the Mirabella surname (mother of the bride). The last thing in that line is et. Right before that there is an abbreviation with a superscript letter e or e up in the air. It's the abbreviation after the words olim coniugibus. That's what I can't decipher.

My guess is that after "olim" it says "coniug(ibus) hu(iu)s civi(tati)s" (three words) :-)

Thanks so much for all your help, Pippo. I've seen civitatis abbreviated in many records, but I just didn't see the word here. It makes sense and clarifies that the bride's parents were from this town.

Io sono un po confuso. Does this mean the bride's parents are from Calatafimi or is she from whatever that word is alone on the last line of the record?

Steve
Didn't mean to confuse you. They are all from Calatafimi.
