Acquiring birth records from Siliy

Hi everyone,

My wife and I only recently discovered my eligibility for Italian Citizenship via Jure Sangiuinis through my great grandfather. We have begun the process of acquiring the necessary documentation, and we decided to start with the Italian birth records of my great grandparents as we assume that these will be the most difficult to track down. I was able to get in touch with my great grandfather's comune fairly easily, but I am having difficulty finding out who to contact in regards to my great grandmother. She was born in Torretta, Sicily, which is just outside of Palermo. I found my way to http://www.tuttitalia.it/sicilia/46-torretta/ where I found a link to the page of the comune directly (http://www.comune.torretta.pa.it/). Unfortunately I don't really know what to do from here. I emailed the mayor's office and one other email address I could find, but I haven't heard anything back. It's been maybe 2 weeks. I do understand that things move slow over there and also that email may not be the best way to communicate with them.

Anyone have any experience with procuring birth records from Sicily, or from Torretta specifically? Should I just use a service like MyItalianFamily.com and pay the $60 for them to do it for me? I'm happy to do the leg work myself, but I also want to do what is most effective. I'd love to hear your thoughts and suggestions.
