Vincenzo d'Attolico's wife

Post by krash142 »

Vincenzo d'Attolico was born on 21 Sep 1885 in the Province of Bari. His wife is listed on various records as Minerva, Giovanna, and Jennie. I'm having trouble finding any solid facts on her. Another note- she arrived in the US in 1910. They lived in New York City with their daughters Angelica, Vita and Isabella in 1920.

I'd just like to find more solid information on Vincenzo's wife.

Here is the marriage of Vincenzo and Giovanna in 1912 in NYC Marriage Index.
Her first name was Giovanna and her surname was Minerva :-)
Giovanna would have been "americanized" to Jennie in the US.

Minerva Giovanna Jan 12 1912 Cert #31444 Manhattan
Dattolico Vincenzo Dec 1 1912 Cert #31444 Manhattan

You can send for this marriage record (for a fee)
https://www1.nyc.gov/dorforms/marriagecert.htm

Here she is in the Social Security Applications and Claims Index.
Name: Giovanna Mineria Dattolico
[Giovanna Mineria Mineiro] (Minerva?)
SSN: 130383057
Gender: Female
Birth Date: 5 Apr 1885
Birth Place: Italy
Father: Donoto Mineiro
Mother: Isabella Dattolico

Type of Claim: Original SSN.
Notes: Oct 1963: Name listed as GIOVANNA MINERIA DATTOLICO

Here is the arrival of Giovanna Minerva, age 25, in May 1909.

Her last place of residence was Palo del Colle [Bari] where she leaves her father, Donato.
Her destination is NY to "uncle, Luigi Adessa"
Her place of birth is listed as Palo del Colle.

On the line above Giovanna Minerva is Giulia Adessa - going to the same address (in this case "brother - Luigi Adessa), and traveling with her daughter Concetta. They are all from Palo del Colle.
HERE is the 1910 US Census for Giovanna Minerva in the household of her aunt - Julia Oss. This is probably the Giulia Adessa on the manifest, and you will see her daughter Concetta listed. Ages agree.

Birth of Giovanna Minerva in 1884 in Palo del Colle
#129
Dated 5 April 1884 at 10:20 AM at the town officie.
Before the official appeared Donato Minerva [son of Lorenzo], age 27, landowner residing in Palo del Colle, to declare that at 9 AM on the 2nd of the current month, at the house at Piazza San Rocco #2, to Isabella Dattolico [daughter of Franceso], his wife, landowner, residing with him (husband), was born a female child who was presented to the official and to whom was given the name GIOVANNA.
Witnesses to the recording of this birth were Antonio Bellezza, 29, saddlemaker; and Leonardo Tullo, 27, farmer.
The act was read to all the participants, but only the declarant (Donato Minerva) signed with the official as the others were illiterate.

Now that I've found the birth record of Giovanna Minerva, I'm able to look for her parents' marriage.

I cannot find her parents' marriage act. Her father, Donato was twenty-seven, according to his own testimony in April 1884. However, I cannot find his marriage act between 1872 and 1886 with Isabella d'Attolico. They likely married in Palo del Colle, listed simply as Palo on the Antenati site. Again, this is in Bari.

Bit of help?

They were married in the bride's home town, Binetto.
You should find the Marriage Act there after 29 March 1883, the last publication of banns.

Here is the act of publication of banns in 1883 in Donato's town of Palo del Colle.
