I have most of the info on this record of baptism worked out so I'm just looking for verification.
It looks to me like this is the record of baptism for an Antonio Aceste, son of Antonino Aceste and Antonina Fici baptized on the 25th of August 1867. Nearby records confirm the year and the parents names also appear on another record of baptism I have for an Antonina Aceste, baptized a year earlier in 1866. I believe that the father of the baptized is the brother of my 2nd great grandfather, Rocco Aceste.
The second witness appears to be Catarina Aceste and her parents are Benedetto Aceste and Antonina Sciortino (my 3rd great grandparents). Caterina is Rocco (and Antonino) Aceste's sister, so she would be the aunt of the baptized, Antonio (and I'm assuming also her godmother).
The first witness appears to be Antonio Fimia, son of Ignazio and Benvenuta? Cal????
Whatever additional information you could provide me would be much appreciated.
Thanks again!
Steve

Re: Antonio Aceste Baptism Verification
Looking through other records I have I found that Antonio Fimia is Catarina Aceste's husband, so the baptism was witnessed by the aunt and uncle of the baptized. I'm assuming they are also the godparent, but could use confirmation.
Antonio Fimia and Catarina Aceste were married just two months earlier, in June of 1867. Antonio Fimia's mother's surname appears to be Calavotta, but I'm unsure about that. The record of their marriage is in poor condition.

A name search for Calavotta on this site -http://italia.indettaglio.it/eng/cognomi/cognomi.html - did not turn up any results.
When I did a Google search for Calavotta, it recommended Calavitta instead, and going back to the italia.indettaglio site a few results came up, mostly in Messina but also a small number in Palermo and Catania. So maybe Calavitta is Benvenuta's surname.

Steve
Due to the condition of the record, it's hard to tell whether there was a variation in the spelling of the surname used in the church record, but I do believe it's the correct surname.
You're very welcome.
