Surnames: Monaco, Emanuela, Pitruzzelo, Boscarino, Cutrale

Post by Smm2559 »

Genealogy search,

I am trying to research my family roots. My Grandfather came over from Sicily in the early part of the 20th century. His name was Filadelfio Monaco b. 1901 in Carlentini, Siracusa, Sicily. He traveled with his mother Grazia Emanuela. He was the last of his siblings to leave Sicily. His father Cirimo died in Carlentini. I have been to the local LDS library and have done some research. Other surnames in the tree are Pitruzzelo, Cutrale and Bosscarino. As far as I can tell they all came from the Carlentini area. If anyone has hints, advice, or maybe a possible match,
any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi,

Is this the manifest for them? It shows them going to Nebraska, I believe.

Shows they were going to see Grazia's son Salvatre.

Hi Sean,

Here are the names of all the Monaco's living in Nebraska that registered Draft cards. Could be uncles....

View Record Alfio Monaco 21 Aug 1893 Caucasian Italy Omaha, Douglas, NE
View Record Alfio Monaco 6 Aug 1893 Caucasian Italy Omaha, Douglas, NE
View Record Angelo Monaco 26 Aug 1889 Caucasian Italy Omaha, Douglas, NE
View Record Filadelfo Monaco 31 Mar 1887 Caucasian Italy Omaha, Douglas, NE
View Record Giuseppe Monaco 15 Jan 1880 White Omaha, Douglas, NE
View Record Salvatore Monaco 6 Nov 1895 White Italy Omaha, Douglas, NE
View Record Sam Monaco 27 Mar 1917 Caucasian Italy Omaha, Douglas, NE

The last name Sam has a bit of a problem, says he was born in 1917 which of course isn't possible since they registered in 1917-1918. I believe Salvatore though is the son Grazia came to see. Wher else in the USA did they live or did they always stay in Nebraska?

Are you looking for US documents or Italian documents?
If you are consulting microfilm I would assume you have completed all US research..........please state your exact research goal.....

Hi Sean,

Thanks for emailing me. I will see what I can find but I'd like to post here since there are others that will more than likely be able to find additional information and I don't want to duplicate it.

I just had a thought...Did your grandfather go by Alfio, as well

I know all of thier U.S history. The Italian history is what I'm looking for. My search has pretty much lead me to microfilm. I was able to track down my grandfathers birth record Filadelfo Monaco and great grandparent's Cirimo Monaco and Grazia Emanuela. Cirimo's Parents were Salvatorie Monaco and Concetta Cutrale. Grazia's parents were Filadelfo Emanuela and Lucia Pitruzello. Lucia's Parents were Salvatorie Pitruzello and "?" Boscarino. As far as I can tell they are all from the Carlentini area. What I would like to achieve is to fill in the gaps, go back a little further! Am I on the right track with microfilm, or are there other places I can look?

If you are able to consult microfilm for your town of origin, then you are on the right track!! You can trace your family as far back as the dates allow, and once you have exhausted the microfilm, your next step is parish records. Some priest are willing to help, others, not so much.
