Just a quick post as I'm on the hop:

Births start here at 1809 Conversano: http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... sano/Nati/

Had a look the other day quickly, but didn't locate. You might have better luck. Good luck.

Following on from my previous very quick post, here is some additional info about the records at the antenati site that that we have been using:
http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.it/?q=gallery

You'll see that they are broken into various provinces of Italy that have been digitised. Just click on your town's province (in this case it is Bari). It will bring you to this: http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... o+di+Bari/

Stato civile napoleonic records are generally for the years 1809-1815
Stato civile della restaurazione are generally for the years 1816-1860
Stato civile italiano cover the years from 1861- ….....it varies in different provinces and towns.

If you are looking for the earlier 1809-1815, say, for your other town, Altamura, just click on “Stato civile napoleonico” and it will bring up all the towns in the province that are online. Click on “Altamura” and it will bring up this link: http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... /Altamura/
which gives you the various types of civil records available for that town. Just click on the particular type of records you are looking for ie births, deaths etc, which will show you the years available, within the timeframe that I previously mentioned.

Hope this helps you navigate your way round a bit. I have my towns bookmarked, and because the majority of my ancestors are from two neighbouring towns, I decided to download the indices to my laptop which makes it quick and easy when I'm revisiting records, especially when the internet is not up to speed or the site is down. It also means that I can make various annotations to the indices. You could also save the links to the indices. Whatever works for you.

Angela :)

I found another sibling to Bartolomeo!

Fonta (?) Stella, death record 1854 in Gravina. Same parents. I think it says she was 40 when she died and that she was born in Conversano. Is there any other information I can pull from this record that I don't already have?

also found this death index record for 2 Stella's in Gravina in 1859 (can't make out the names), parents are Nicola Stella & Maria (?). Death was in July; one on the 9th and one on the 11th?

have to leave for work but will be searching for the records themselves later. wondering if they are the children of the Vito Nicola that you had found for me.

She died on 25 April 1854 at 7 PM.
She was single, and a seamstress.
Same parents as you stated, and 40 years old.

Jen, just one very important thing to add to what Tessa has said about Fonta's death record: Vitantonio is deceased and Orzonia is still alive. This therefore, gives you a time frame of when Vitantonio died. He died some time from Bartolomeo's death in 1849 to Fonta's death in 1859.

awesome Angela! that's very helpful! on the same note, can I assume that Fonta was born in Conversano? I think that's what the record said. If she was 40 at the time of her death in 1854, then she'd have been born around 1814 or 1813 depending on the month of birth. But I checked the indices for those 2 years in Conversano and didn't see her. Is it possible she was born elsewhere? Maybe I should check Altamura and Gravina (the 2 other towns the family had resided in)?

Re: Fonta's Death Record: It doesn't exactly say "born in Conversano", it just says "of Conversano" so I'm not 100% sure on that one, sorry.

I may have found Vitantonio's death record. There are a couple of discrepancies though, and because we don't already know who Vitantonio's parents were, I'd be cautious. This record says that Vitantonio died before Bartolomeo's September marriage in 1849????, on 28 August, 8 pm, in his home where he lived, born in Conversano, husband of Oronza (Oronzia) Sulflizza??? profession Sellaro (Saddler) , son of deceased Cosmo and deceased Teresa Monopoli. There doesn't seem to be any indication in Bartolomeo's marriage record that Vitantonio had died so it's a little odd. I'll have a closer look later. Maybe I'm missing something. To me it also seems odd that the parents are Cosmo and Teresa. I would've thought that the parents may have been Bartolomeo and Rosa, unless they didn't follow the Italian naming pattern????? I'll have a wee think. Put this to the side for the moment.

thanks Angela! I will definitely keep this on the side until we know for sure. One piece that I think might be relevant. I think that perhaps Rosa and Bartolomeo were not the first ones born, based on the ages of Vitantonio and Oronzia at their births. they seemed old to be having their first children, so I suspected they may have had others before that, and started searching. the birth records are difficult, since they seem to be indexed by first name not surname, so I approached it backwards, by looking at death records in the town they were living in (Gravina) at the time of Bartolomeo's marriage. That is where I found the death record for Fonta; if I can locate her birth record that may help? Based on her age at death, she would have been born earlier (1814) than either Rosa (1819 & 1825) or Bartolomeo (1819 & 1821). so perhaps this could be correct. Although maybe not.

:D I like your thinking Jen.

I started looking for Vito Nicola's marriage record to see what info was there and have just found Luigi's which I believe confirms that Vitoantonio had died by June 1851. It's disappointing that there are no attachments with these records because they would actually include Vitantonio's death record and also his fathers.

Marriage No 75: Luigi Stella and Lucrezia Popolizio
Gravina: 30 May 1851
Married 1 June 1851 church of S. Francesco
Groom: Luigi Stella, born Conversano and living Gravina, 25 yo, sellaro, son of “deceased” Vito and Oronzia Solofrizzi (spelling differs a little, which does happen) living in Gravina with her son.

Bride: Lucrezia Popolizio, born in Altamura, living in Gravina, of more years, 30 yo, daughter of Nicolo Domenico, and of Gaetana D'addezio, here living with her daughter.

Allegati include:
1. Birth extract of groom
2. Death Exctract father
3. Death Extract Paternal grandfather.
4. Birth extract of bride etc etc

A pity the allegati arn't on line.
