What would be the best way to find out more about Italian POWs in Abyssinia?
What would be the best way to find out more about Italian POWs in Abyssinia?
We're trying to find out more about our father's time in Abyssinia during the Italian invasion. He was captured by the English and sent to India then Australia. He had a family in Abyssinia and we are trying to find out more about them. He was from Reggio Calabria. Would we need to get in contact with someone from the archives in Calabria to access his military records? We're not sure where to start!

Hi,
you can request the photocopy of Foglio Matricolare in Reggio Calabria archive.
As a well on line are many websites reporting the names of italian POWS sent in India and then in Australia... ( also by this website you, maybe, can find his POW arrival in Australia http://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/SearchNR ... earch.aspx
if you will find you can descover many infos also abt where he was captured)
By Foglio Matricolare you can know his regiment/company/battalion etc and when and where he was captured in Abyssinia... and finding that ( if is reported on the Foglio Matricolare) you then you just can retrace the events of his regiment or what it was... Abt the family in Abyssinia is another search.. no easy.. but all is possible....
Best regards,
suanj
