tranlation help re: Giuseppe Clemente records

Post by Jen5525 »

Hi all,

Attached are records for Giuseppe Clemente (his son Vito and daughter Pasqua's births; his marriage; and what I believe is his birth record). Can you (1) confirm that this is all the same Giuseppe Clemente and (2) can anyone help with translation of his birth and marriage records?

Daughter Pasqua (1885)-my great grandmother

Son Vito (1892)

Marriage (1885; 5 months before Pasqua's birth!)

Giuseppe's birth (1859)?

Thanks so much!

And also confirm that this is his wife, Maria Apollonia Signorella?

In all of your records it appears to be the same Giuseppe Clemente :-)

Act #463, dated 25 September 1849.
Birth of Giuseppe Clemente on 24th at 6 PM at home .
Parents are Vitantonio Clemente, 30, sapper; and Pasqua Marvullo (spelled Marvulli in later records), his wife, 21.

Act #39, dated 18 April 1885
Marriage of Giuseppe Clemente, single, 25yo farmer, born and residing in Altamura. He was the son of Vito and of Pasqua Marfulli, both of said place.
AND
Maria Apollonia Signorella, single, 20yo seamstress born and residing in Altamura. Se was the daughter of Pasquale and of Gaetana Calia, both of said place.

The birth act for Maria Apollonia is the correct one.
Her parents on this act are Pasquale Signorella, 28, shoemaker, son of Giuseppe; and Gaetana Calia, 19, his wife.

thanks Tessa! much appreciated!! the confusing part for me was his birth record had a father's name of Vitantonio while the remaining had his father as Vito. I'm assuming Vito is diminutive of Vitantonio, but wanted to be sure :)

I found this death record for Vitantonio Clemente and I'm wondering if it's possible to confirm if this is the father of Giuseppe (above)?

I believe the above IS the death record as I've found the marriage record of Giuseppe's parents, Vitantonio Clemente and Pasqua Marvullo in 1857. I believe the parents of Vitantonio match the death record above? But would love assistance in translating all of the names and pertinent details. I've having trouble deciphering it.

I would say YES. The deceased is the widower of Pasqua Marvulli.

The record is dated 18 June 1912. Death on same say at 8 AM.
Vitantonio Clemente was age 82, farmer son of deceased Giuseppe and of deceased Giuditta Tafuno.

Declarants were Biagio Clemente, 44 (no relationship given); and Antonio Mastrangelo, 51.

In the marriage record...

Date is 9 May 1857
Vitantonio is age 27, born in Altamura, a farmer residing at Strada S. Gaetano.
He is the son of Giuseppe, hoer/digger; and of Giuditta Tafuno.
Pasqua is age 18, residing at Strada S. Vincenzo.
She is the daughter of Lorenzo, hoer/digger; and of deceased Maria Donata Sardone.
Among the documents presented was the death act for the bride's mother. She died on 18 July 1841, in Altamura.

NOTE: From record to record, Pasqua's surname varies with an ending "o" and "i"

Found the birth of Biagio Clemente in 1868 (#66). Looks like he is the son of Vito Clemente and Pasqua Marvulli. Correct? Can you assist with the notations in the margins? Thanks in advance!

First notation states that on 1 December 1894 he married Antonia Piacenza in Altamura.

On 20 May 1919 it looks like there was a rectification of a record. Possibly for the marriage noted in the last entry.

On 23 June 1919, #18, marriage to Filomena Simone.
