Hello,
I heard that this forum was a good place to find some friendly folks that could assist with translating handwritten records. Unfortunately my grandparents are no longer with us and my 2 years of high school Italian are just not cutting it on this one.
I recently came across the marriage record of my 2nd great grandfather (Salvatore Scarpulla - 2nd record on the left) and would love to know the date of marriage, parents names, etc. If anyone can provide any help translating the document or point me in the direction of where I could find something online, I would greatly appreciate it!
All the best,
Brian Scarpulla

Re: Request for Translation Assistance
The record is in Latin. Here is what I see...
Date appears to be 19 February 1892
Groom: Salvatore Scarpulla is the son of Giuseppe Scarpulla and Sancta Murgia(?)
Bride: Giovanna Pantalone is the daughter of Giuseppe Pantalone and Domenica Bongiovanni.

Re: Request for Translation Assistance
Thank you so much, I really appreciate your help! Is it common for records of this time period and location, central Sicily, to be written in Latin?
Re: Request for Translation Assistance
This record is an ecclesiastical record of a church marriage. They were commonly in Latin.
The civil records are in Italian.
What town in Sicily? Maybe we can locate the civil record.

Re: Request for Translation Assistance
I realized that this was in Latin because of the ecclesiastical record shortly after I posted this. The commune is Villarosa in Enna, Sicily.
Re: Request for Translation Assistance
There are some civil records online for Villarosa at this link, but they begin in 1911.

Re: Request for Translation Assistance
Thanks, Tessa! I just started going through these. My family emigrated here in 1911 but I've already found some useful information here.

There are also civil records available for Villarosa on microfilm from LDS. You can rent and view at your nearest Family History Center...
