I need help translating this birth document #186 for Pietro Giordano. The documents for Santa Ninfa during this time period are very poor. I am desperate! I have even tried to view the microfiche version of this document- it was terrible too. I am hoping someone is able to read this for me. Thank you so much for anything you can decipher!! I know this is my ancestor born on September 8, 1877.

Re: Desperate for translation help!
On Sept 9 1877 the midwife XXX XXX, aged 7x years presented to the town hall a baby male who she declared was born Sept 8 to a woman who did not wanrt to be named. The official imposed the name Pietro Giordani (final "i"). The baby was also given to the midwife, on her request, who promised she will nourish him.

Re: Desperate for translation help!
I was just looking at this as well. Livio's quicker than me:-) The only thing that I can add is that the baby was born at via Cappello, no number given. The midwife looks to be a 66 yo. I can't catch her name either.
Edit to add: Midwife: Vita Giacalone
Susanne: Thinking about the midwife, I notice that she doesn't seem to be the named midwife in the preceding records and she has been given the baby to look after. If it was me, I would research the midwife, find out where she lived, whether she had any daughters etc, just in case she's not actually the grandmother???? Just my overthinking mind here:-)

Disregard my previous comment pertaining to the midwife Vita Giacalone. I've just had a quick look at some other records and noticed that she has delivered and presented other babies. It's interesting though that the births I have located are all of "unknown parents".

Thank you both soooooo much! Out of all of my family research over the years, this is the one document I was most hoping to find. My family always knew our Pietro was born on September 8, 1877 to a rich noble and a maid. Because they were not married the gave up 2 of their 4 children for adoption. As the story was told to me, Pietro was born in the Castle in Santa Ninfa and then given to a childless couple, Vincenzo and Angelina Giordano. I always wanted to find the documents to support the story but was so sad when the microfiche and then this document was so hard to read. I can't thank you enough!!!! Suzanne

You are very welcome Suzanne. What an interesting story. I hope the children had a happy upbringing and received the best.
