Hi,
Does anyone have time to translate a birth record? The record came from Procida-Family.com. Their index has Paolo's mother's surname listed as IORICE. According to other records I have her name was Maddalena Sorge. Possibly a translation error on Procida's site.
Thank you,
Anthony

I'm reading Maddalena Sorice. The father is Saverio Morena.

Re: Birth translation - Paolo Morena
Sure.
Birth No 281: Paolo Morena
Procida: 24 September 1862
Vincenza Scotto di Vettimo, daughter of deceased Vincenzo, 40 yo, midwife, living Corricella, presented a baby boy born from Maddalena Sorice, 25, living Castello, and from Saverio Morena, 28, Soldato Veterano (veteran soldier) living said place. Paolo was born on 24 September at 10 am in the house of the married couple (Maddalena and Saverio) and named Paolo Morena.
Witnesses: Salvatore Lubrano, Scribente (Scribe) living Pozzovecchio (Pozzo Vecchio) and Gennaro Nippolo, Scribente living at S. Giacomo
Paolo Morena was baptised Provida on 24 September 1862.
If I'm understanding correctly it seems like they were living at the Castle (of Corricella?????)

That's what I read too. Thought I read it wrong. It's weird because all of the Morena's including Paolo's younger siblings were born and raised in Teggiano. I know Maddalena's name as Sorge (listed on Paolo's marriage certificate). His marriage certificate was where I first saw Procida. https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1 ... cat=689489AngelaGrace56 wrote: 15 Apr 2017, 03:40 Sure.

Still wondering why they were in a castle in Procida.
Thank you as always for the translation
Re: Birth translation - Paolo Morena
It looks like the castle was converted into a prison in 1830. I'm hoping they worked there and weren't true residents.
I am waiting for his baptism record.

Sorge and Sorice, in Italian, sound similar when spoken. Maybe the clerk wrote down what he thought he heard?amarino81 wrote: 15 Apr 2017, 04:48That's what I read too. Thought I read it wrong. It's possible that the father was working there if he was a veteran soldier. (He was quite young though to be a "veteran" so maybe I've misinterpreted the meaning of the word? Maybe someone else can take a look.)

He is quite young to be a veteran. I tried finding his military enrollment on the Salerno military site but wouldn't find him. Anyone know where these records could be held?
Re: Birth translation - Paolo Morena
I have the baptism record now.
I was only able to look at it on my phone so far. Anyone have time to translate?
