Paolillo/Paulilli

Post by QuestionSleep »

Hello, I realize that I posted a similar question a very long time ago (only I spelt it Paulillo, because I wasn't quite sure) I didn't get that much of a reply, so maybe someone else will recognize it.

My great great grandmother was Isabella Paolillo (or Paolilli...I don't think it's that much of a difference)
She was from Bisceglie, Bari and when she came to America her name was changed to Elizabeth Rubino (my great great grandfather name)
Does anybody recognize this surname, or what it means? like I said in my previous post (a long, long time ago) I havent been able to find it in any databases.

I have who she might have come over with, etc if that info is needed.

Of course, the more information you provide us the more chances of getting a better response. Sometimes its easier to find someone through another person due to misspellings and such. Where in the USA did she travel to?

Hi about Paolillo or Paolilli it are a difference for sure, almost in Italy where all must be very precise....

About Rubino surname, this surname coming from first name "Rubino" original (that coming from "Rubeus " latin word) of middle age.... the meaning is "red" ( of hair)...

QuestionSleep,

Re Isabella Paolillo
If these are Elizabeth's records, then you may have enough info to write to Italy per Riccardo's suggestion above!
Also, they contain the correct mis-spelling of her name & certificate # for writing to MA for her death certificate.
Hope this helps! vj

Hi, just a bit about Paolillo/Paulillo surnames, the origin is the same coming from a dialectal variation of Paulus latin cognomen( name known by) that mean "piccolo/little"..

Sorry for the horribly late reply :(
But yes, everybody is right on the info.

I have a question though...I think somebody already answered it, but I forgot...so if my great-granparents were going to see Mauro, who would be Elizabeths brother...why does he have the same last name and Joseph?
