I located a sister of Ernesto Alfredo Rampezzotti.
Her birth was about 1861 -

Here is the marriage in 1908 in Varese, Lombardia, of Maria Rosa Rampezzotti, daughter of deceased (both) Carlo Rampezzotti and Carolina Lorini.
#5 - left side
Maria Rosa was born in Milano about 1861, and resided in Varese.
The groom was Alessandro Brioschi, age 80, well-off, born in Milano, residing in Varese; son of deceased (both) Giuseppe [Brioschi] and Lucia Motta.
The marriage took place on 21 May 1908 at the home in Castellanza di Bosto, Vicolo Mera, #1 (it appears that the weather prevented going to the town office)

I also located the Allegati di Matrimonio of Maria Rosa and Alessandro.
One of the docments in the "attachments" to the marriage included a baptism of Maria Rosa Teresa Rampezzotti and mentions the marriage date of Carlo Rampezzotti and Carolina Lorini - 19 May 1850 in S. Maurizio (possibly S. Maurizio Canavese, Province of Torino, Piemonte Region)
It confirms Maria Rosa's birth as 10 November 1861.

There is a good possibility that Ernesto's parents had his birth registered in Italy.
Since his sister Maria Rosa was born in Milano, there is a good possibility that is where his would be registered, UNLESS his parents were living elsewhere before they left Italy for India.

Is the Ernesto Alfredo Rampezzotti who died in Barnstable, your relative?

You can write directly to the Comune of Milano to request a search for his birth act. It would most likely be in Parte II, or Supplement. Provide as much information about Ernesto's birth as you can, include the information about the baptism in India, and the names of his parents. Include your photo ID and an email address so you can be reached.

Address:
Ufficio dello Stato Civile
Piazza della Scala, 2
Milano(MI)

Hey Tessa THANK YOU! 😊

Yes Ernesto did pass away in Barnstable in Dec 1957. Ive just ordered his Death Certificate.

If he was an italian citizen when his daughter (my grandmother) was born but i dont believe she was an italian citizen she may possibly but i dont know but i know she was a british citizen and renounced it to be an Australian citizen can i still become an Italian citizen?

Thanks,
Laura
