Translation help - Antonio Vita birth record 1827 Marsicovetere

Post by Jcox129 »

I am seeking help reading this birth record for my 3x Great Grandfather Antonio Vita, born 29 April 1827 in Marsicovetere. I believe that it says his father is Nicola Vita, age 40, a farmer. I am having difficulty reading his mother's name, and am requesting assistance.

Here is his birth record, page 1:

And page 2:

Thank you in advance for your help.

Cheers,

Jane

His mother's name is Teresa Miraglia :-)

Father is, indeed, Nicola Vita, age 40, farmer.
Antonio was born on 28 April, presented on 29 April, and baptized the same day he was presented.

After Antonio's his father's name, Nicola, does it say "son of _____"? I can't make out who Nicola is the son of. Someone in another forum thought it said "Nicola, son of Lucretia," but isn't Lucretia a female name?

I was trying to puzzle out the name when I first translated this act.
The name could be Lucrezia (being born of an unnamed father with only the mother named.) It certainly looks like an "a" at the end of the name.
If it is a male name, written sloppily, it could be Leonzio, or Lucrezio, or something else?

Finding a marriage act for Nicola Vita and Teresa Miraglia should help to identify the parents.

EDIT TO ADD***

Here is another child born to the couple.
In the record Nicola is the son of the living Lucrezia, age 40.

AND***
The birth of a son, Antonio, in April 1822 -
Nicola is the son of Lucrezia and "padre incerto"

Wow, Nicola has an unknown father! Thank you so much. So Nicola had a son named Antonio in 1822 and another son named Antonio (from original record in my post) in 1827. I will search tonight to see if the first Antonio perhaps died before the second Antonio was born. I will also hunt for Nicola Vita and Teresa Miraglia marriage. This is fascinating. We're illegitimate children allowed to be baptised? If I ever find records as far back as Nicolas birth, it will be very interesting to see how that is documented. I know nothing about how illegitimate births were handled in that time period. This will definitely be a learning experience!

Thank you for your help and for finding other children born to Nicola and Teresa, and for translation!

I found Nicola Vita and Teresa Miraglia's marriage in 1812. When I go to the one that is supposed to be their marriage record, I can't see their names anywhere on it. I'm going to try to learn more about reading the handwriting - I feel bad asking for so much help.

Also, should give credit - Suanj was able to translate Teresa Miraglia for me in a PM before I got the answer on this post. My head is so full of names and dates that I get confused, but want to give credit where it is due! Thanks to you both, Suanj and Tessa!

Yes, the numbers on the left in this particular index only represent the numbering of the alphabetical list.
In this case, you would need to look at the date of the birth in the far right column (in March) to find it.

Happy to help! :-)
