Bellomo family from Pollizi Generosa

Just getting started and can see this is a wonderful site with numerous sources. Any helpful leads would be appreciated. I am interested in my gg father Domenico Bellomo from Pollizi Generosa, all I know is he had at least 3 sons, Michele, Guiseppe, and Salvatore. They came to the U.S. early 1900's. Guiseppe went back and joined the Italian army about 1918, and was never seen again.

At this site, I found a record for Domenico Bellomo, age 27 arrived 3/22/1910, married, last residence Bari, port of departure: Napoli. Wife's name Caterina (M or W airutuo???????).

Could this be your gg father??????

The more info you can provide, the more this forum can help. Where did he settle? If you don't have access to census records, people here will post images of the census records, but need to know location.

Do you have death certificate for your gg parents? Can be very helpful in providing comune in Italy where you can trace your family further back.

I located a Sam and Mike Bellomo living at the same address in Detroit, Michigan...other possibilities as well, need to know where this family resided in U.S.............the more info provided on a family the easier it is to narrow down the search......

There are 39 head of households listed under exact name of Bellomo on the 1920 census in many states.

Need location and approx. age for Domenico and sons.

Hi Domenic,

Was Salvatore born around 1914 and did he work on the ships at all? I found several manifests for Salvatore who worked as a cadet on the ship Conte Di Savoia. Could he be related to you?

thank you for the quick responses. From what I have gathered Domenico's wife was Maria and they stayed in Italy. The birth of the 3 sons are Michele about 1885, Guiseppe 1888, and Salvatore 1893. I don't know when Michele arrived but his two younger brothers arrived in 1905 and they all lived in Cleveland, Ohio for awhile. Guiseppe lived in Detroit for awhile and returned to Italy. I don't know what happened to his brothers but have heard they lived in Brooklyn, New York. Thank you again. I will look into the FHL.

It has been a few months since my last post, during that time I checked all the films from FHL for the town of Polizzi Generosa without a match. My gg father must have been born in another city. Any ideas on how to proceed?

The Ellis Island record shows my g father, Giuseppe and his younger brother Salvatore arrived Oct 1905. Their mother is Maria Schimmenti but lists Rosario as her husband, not my gg father Domenico. Could this be her second marriage?

Where did you get the info that Polizzi Generosa, was the town of origin? It's not on Salvator's WWI Draft Card.

You may want to contact the Central Archive in Italy for Giuseppe's military records. Here is teir email address.

My g mother was born there and the Ellis Island records show Giuseppe and Salvatore coming from Polizzi Generosa. I guess I shouldn"t assume anything without the hard facts.
