Dated March 29, 1897
Appearing at the town hall to declare the birth was Giuseppe Perale, age 21, a mason in Mirano. He reported that at 10 a.m. on the 25th, in the house in Zianigo di Mirano, #110, from his union with a woman to whom he wasn't married or who wasn't a relative in any degree which would prove an obstacle to her recognition of the infant, was born a male infant who was being given the name Gerardo Maria Silvio (Perale). Giuseppe, the declarant, attested to the veracity of the birth, but did not present the infant. The reason given for not presenting the infant-the street was too long (that's what I'm deciphering, but it seems like a strange reason to me). I gather it means that it was quite a distance from where the baby was born to the town hall, so the presentation of the infant was dispensed with.

"Strada troppo lunga" were the Italian words I saw in the document. I thought they meant "way too long" -in other words, "quite a distance." You are saying the words mean "less than 4 km?" I really don't understand. Then how would you translate "strada troppo lunga" into English? Can you clarify this for me? Thanks.

Ci sono circa 4 km [~4 km] fra Zianigo e il Municipio di Mirano. E' un percorso troppo lungo da fare con un neonato.

Zianigo and Mirano Town Hall are about 4 km [~ 4 km] apart.
It's too big a distance to go to a newborn baby
