Posting the banns for two consecutive Sundays was the law.
However, it appears that the couple did not marry soon after the first set of banns were posted in May/June of 1885. Banns are valid for six months, I believe, so they were required to post them again in November/December 1885.

Act of marriage #9
Dated 10 May 1886 in Gagliano Castelferrato
Groom: Giuseppe Dicomo, 34, farmer born in Gagliano to Cataldo who resides in this town; and to deceased Agata Cocuzza.
Bride: Antonia Dicataldo, 21, spinner, born in Gagliano to Santo residing in this town; and to deceased Nunziata Baldi.
Publication of banns of marriage on 29 November and 6 December 1885.

Request for Publication of Marriage Banns #18
Dated 24 May 1885.
First set of banns were posted 31 May and 7 June 1885.
Same information about the groom and bride as posted above.

Request for Publication of Marriage Banns #37
Dated 27 November 1885
This second set were posted 29 November and 6 December as stated in their marriage act above. Same information for spouses.
