Need More Help with Matrimonial Record

Post by February »

My grandmother's marriage record is more than I expected to find! I would greatly appreciate a translation. The link on her birth record seems to have worked, so here is the marriage record:

Thanks for any help.

Marriage No 15: Carmine Salvatore Ferraioli and Luigia Ruggiero

Angri: 16 March 1901, 11.40 am
Before the official were appearing:

Groom: Carmine Salvatore Ferraioli, unmarried, 26 yo, contadino, born in S. Egidio di Montalbino (Sant'Egidio Del Monte Albino), residing in said town, son of the deceased Antonio (Ferraioli) and of Carolina Nocera, residing in S. Egidio di Mantalbino.

Bride: Luigia Ruggiero, unmarried, 20 yo, tessitrice (weaver/textile worker), born in Angri, residing Angri, daughter of Francesco (Ruggiero), and of Carmela de Vivo, both residing Angri

Banns were posted on 17 and 24 February 1901 in both towns. The parents of the bride gave their permission (to the marriage taking place).

There is a note at the bottom saying that the act was reconstituted on 31 August 1965????? Maybe you know what that was about?

Art. 37 of the Civil State Rules 9-7-1939 #1238 states that:
"Se uno solo degli originali in corso è smarrito o distrutto, il procuratore della Repubblica provvede affinché, sotto la vigilanza del giudice delegato dal presidente del tribunale, sia fatta copia esatta dell'originale che ancora si conserva..."
"If one of the original books is lost or destroyed, the prosecutor of the Republic shall ensure that, under the supervision of the judge delegated by the president of the court, an exact copy is made from the original still preserved..."

Grazie, Livio. I wondered whether they may be the case.

Thank you both for your help!

Children do not seem to be entered on the Matrimonial Records the way marriages are entered on Birth Records. So, is there any way to find children from a marriage besides going through all the Birth Records starting approximately 9 months after a marriage?

Happy to help.

In answer to the first part of the question I have highlighted here, you do sometimes see children listed on the death records of parents, depending on which towns you are researching. They will list the name of the child and also their ages.

The rest of the question has been answered here, on your related thread: https://www.italiangenealogy.com/forum/ ... logy/41519

I know that when indices are not included, it may seem tedious to some to go through each record individually, but I have actually learned so much more about my history through doing this and I am sure my tree is much stronger for it. (I've also come across records that have not been included in the indices.) All the best to you with your search.

Thank you Angela - much appreciated. I expect to find children, but if using the index doesn't yield that result, I'll go through the records individually.
