Genealogy of the Grammatico family

Post by Cferra »

It's been a while since I asked for help hasn't it? Well, over Thanksgiving my brother's father in-law, Stephen Grammatico, had asked me to find out information about his side of the family. His wife has asked me to do the same. Somehow I've become the genealogist for the entire famiglia. But, that's another story.

Steve told me that his father, Stephen Ameglio Grammatico was born July 22nd, 1913 in the city of Palermo, Sicily. He told me Stephen's mom died young. He has no idea who she was. The worst part is that he spent some time in an orphanage even though his father was in the US. He got him, though.

Stephen marred a woman named Lena Dibianco on February 6th, 1937. She was from Naples, I believe. That will be on another post, I think.

Hope you all can help!

I believe this is Stefano's 1930 ship manifest. Last residence Trapani, joining father Giuseppe in New Haven, CT; leaves sister Giuseppina Grammatico in Trapani.

Father Giuseppe's and daughter Francesca Paola's 1929 ship manifest; note Francesca Paola leaves sister Rosa in Italy.

Father Giuseppe's 1913 manifest. Last residence Trapani. Leaves wife Giuseppa Giangrasso in Trapani at Via Pietro Parisi. Destination New Haven to join brother Giovanni. Birthplace Monte San Giuliano.

https://www.ancestry.com/interactive/74 ... _2251-0131

Giuseppa Giangrasso's 1918 death act from Trapani, #226

Death reported on 8 Apr 1918 but occurred on the 7th in a home on Via San Pietro, #42, age 36, occupation housewife, daughter of the deceased Stefano and the living Giuseppa Giannitrapani who it appears was also one of the people who reported her death, wife of Giuseppe Grammatico.

Now I need to find info on Giuseppe Grammatico's parents.

His manifest shows his birthplace as the town Monte San Giuliano in the province of Trapani. 1872 birth acts from Monte San Giuliano are online but there is no annual index and births for January appear to be missing.

Ancestry suggested naming Monte San Giuliano, Trapani, Sicily to Erice. Apparently there was a name change.

Marty, Great Find. I wonder if the "Ameglio" referenced in the initial post is for Stefano's grandmother Rosa Augugliaro?
