Glad to help you!signoretti wrote: 22 Dec 2017, 06:45 Tessa this is AMAZING!!!!!!![]()
Thank you so muchI have come accross many similarities in birthdays back then to my family living now
![]()
I have googled all the addresses and seen where my ancestors were born. It is so wonderful to think my great grandma Lina was born, lived and grew up yards from The Pantheon. The house Elena was born in and Ercole died in is now a hotel. My family & I have gotta stay there when we go
I just can't wait to go there someday and walk those streets![]()
I can't thank you all enough, grazie mille Tessa, Liveo, PippoM!!!!!!!!! This forum is the most amazing place! I have used it for 9 years and have made many, many connections and discoveries only because of your kind help, thank you a million times!!!
I was trying to read some of the witnesses names and occupations on the birth records for some more clues on familys names that resided in Rome. They are so hard to read. The only one I could make out was on Linas birth record saying Carlo Motta, Ercoles brother also an Umbrella maker.

Just remember that house numbers might have changed over the years, so #45 in 1894 might not be the same building today.
And if you come to Roma, I'll be glad to meet you and show you something of the City. So, if you want, please contact me by PM.

Here is a record of the marriage of Ercole Motta and Rita Ravetta in Part 2 of the 1884 book of marriages in Rome. (#16)
They were both born in Novara and were married there, but since they were residents of Rome they also had the marriage recorded in Rome. That is why it is in Part 2.
Ercole was age 27, shopkeeper, son of deceased Bartolomeo Motta, and of Maddalena Colla.
Rita was also age 27, daughter of Gaudenzio Ravetta and deceased Angela Clerici(?).
Marriage took place in Novara on 23 January 1884.

Some further information from the above Marriage of Ercole and Rita...
Witnesses to the marriage were: Giuseppe Clerici, age 49, a gilder; and Giuseppe Maria Cioccalo(sp?), 53, hatmaker.
The couple presented a Certificate of publication of banns of marriage in Rome on 2 and 9 December last year (1883)
The couple and the witnesses signed the original (in Novara) record with the official.
The date of the record in Rome is 4 February 1884.

Tessa ~
Thank you soooooooooo much!!!! I was so happy and grateful to wake up this morning and see your post. Thank you for translating the further information on the marraige certificate. It is often these names, small details, and listed professions gives me a glimpse into my ancestors lives back then. It really helps me put the giant puzzle together and solidify names of ancestors. These small details are what interest me the most
Giuseppe Clerici was the brother of Angela Clerici, Ritas mother. It is very cool to know he was a gilder. What a skilled proffesion
Giuseppe Maria Cioccalo was married to the oldest sister of Ercole (Ercole came from a family of 14 children) Knowing that he was a hatmaker is really interesting. I wonder what kind of hats he made? Its all so interesting!! Umbrella makers, gilders, hatmakers all so artistic
I have done extensive research on Ercole and Ritas family in Novara. I found a website years ago that has helped me very much. They have the records of the Novara Cattedrale and Novara Sant'Agabio from the years of 1820-1899. There is no search button that I found so you have to go through each page by page which takes hours. I will post the link below
http://www.novadomusnovara.it/novara/an ... ovara.html
Doing this I was able to map out Ercole and Ritas parents and grandparents, aunt and uncles and brothers and sisters families. When I requested records by mail the church sent very extensive records. I have a couple requests out now and I am so excited to get them back
It looks like the Clericis started leaving Novara around the 1860's. Most of the husbands and wives only have 1 or 2 children then no more are registered, making me think maybe they were all moving to Rome. And then Giuseppe Clerici signed the marriage certificate.
When Rita and her daughters emigrated to the US in 1914 they listed as the relative leaving in Rome was Aunt Angela Clerici.
PippoM thank you so much for all your help and I will definetly remember to meet up with you in Rome. I recently found family in Citta di Castello that neither of us knew we had. Its been wonderful talking to them. I cant wait to meet them, see the hills of Umbria and walk the streets of Rome
LiveoMoreno thank you so much for your years of help. I am just so appreciative
I googled earthed all those addresses and virtually walked the streets of Rome today, so beautiful!!

Tessa78 ~
Thank you so much for your translation help on the witnesses
I was wondering, since two of the Motta sons (refrenced above) stayed in Rome is there any way you are able to find marriage certificates for those two sons?
Arnaldo Celestino Motta b. 8 Aug 1888
Luciano Cesare Battista Motta b. 21 July 1889
When the oldest son Ferruccio (Frank) Motta returned to Italy to marry his girlfriend and bring her back to the USA in 1919, I couldnt find the ships manifest to see what relative was left residing in Rome.
Frank also traveled back to Italy and came back to the USA on Nov 7, 1928 and I couldn't find any relatives names on that manifest.
When my great great grandma Rita and her daughers Velia, Celeste and Lina left Rome to come to the US in 1914 the name of the relative left behind was Aunt Elena Clerici. When I search the whitepages in Rome todaty only 10 Clericis come up
I would love to find Mottas and Clericis still residing in Rome.
Any helpful leads would be so appreciated
Thanks ~ Emily
