Father's birth certificate

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Father's birth certificate

Post by a_devito »

Hello, I am looking to help get my father his Italian passport so I can get mine. He was born in Toritto in the province of Bari in December 4, 1951. Also, I am pretty sure I am eligible to get my Italian passport? Can someone help me with that? All of my grandparents were born in Italy, but immigrated to Canada in the mid '50s. My dad isn't sure that he still has his birth certificate. Thank you!

You know, of course, that the birth certificate will not be enough. It shows he was born in Italy, likely with Italian citizenship. However, you will also need to show that he was still a citizen when you were born.

Did he naturalize, and if he did, was it before or after you were born (also the date he married would be significant)?

You will also need to check if your grandparents naturalized when your father was a minor. That would affect his citizenship as well.
