POW'S HELD IN THE UK DURING WW2

Post by Roy Tasker »

My father was an Italian POW held in one of the POW camps in Lincolnshire. The most likely camps are: -
Camp 80 Horbling near Sleaford, Camp 79 Moorby camp Revesby, camp156 Heath camp Wellingore. I have been forwarded a link to Vatican records of all POW's held in England, I have searched hundreds of pages and listed all Internees with the name Stefano however, I don't seem to be able to match the names to the camps in Lincolnshire.
Stefan was billeted in farm buildings in the next village to the farm in Digby were he worked on the Tasker's farm, it was on Tasker's farm were he met my mother and formed a relationship resulting in me being born in 1945.

Does anyone know how I can link the name Stefano to the POW camps, so that I can research each one of the family names I have found (About 12 names identified from the Vatican data) to try to identify my fathers family name. If this is possible, I may find my roots in Italy. I have done a DNA test which indicates I may originate from Sardinia but the only connection is a third cousin who is unable to help in my search!
Any suggestions would be welcome. :(

I have found two files compiled by the Vatican which has lots of information re prisoners of war during WW2. Not speaking Italian, I have found it difficult to extract relevant information however, Italian speakers will find these files very useful I am sure.

Roy, any luck?

We are trying to figure out the reverse... My mother in law's father was billeted on a farm, but we don't know which one. And according to family lore, he fathered a child while billeted there.
He was also a POW in Lincolnshire (POW Camp 51 located in Allington), but I am not having luck in finding any records of where individual POWs were billeted. Do you know of any such records? When I asked, I was told that the Lincolnshire Archives do not have this information.
Thanks, Levina

Hey, I just sent you a private message as my grandfather, from Calabria, was there in Allington and also fathered a few children. To our knowledge he had both a son and a daughter; actually, he only recognised the latter one and my grandfather was in love with the girl but after a few years he had to come back for a while and he did not head back to UK because of several reasons. Just keep in touch as it could be a potential match for both of us, who knows?
