Help translate this letter

Post by magprise »

Hello,

This is my first post to this site. I am hoping someone can help translate this letter for me. It was written by my great-grandfather in 1911 while he was in Italy to his family in NY. He emigrated in 1880 but travelled back and forth several times.

I have been told he was originally from Calabria but I don't know the town so I have not been able to research this line of my family. I found this copy of a letter in documents I inherited from an aunt. There is a town name at the top Spezzano Albanese. My poor attempts at translation lead me to believe that he is saying that his brother's family is in good health. Is this correct that he is referring to his brother and not his brother in law. Also is there any other indication that Spezzano is where his brother lives?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

And I thought image shack was a pain....... 8O

copy and paste the line into browser and hit go........
then the image comes up.

i will not attempt a transcription, there are other members with far more experience than I who would do an excellent job.

Another translation (if needed)...

Spezzano Albanese 30/5/11

Blessed daughter

With this letter i'm telling you that I've had a good journey, even if a little bit long, but the sea was very calm. I feel very good and I found my brother's family in very good health. I wish you are in good health too, I hope especially that Alessandro have recovered. Moreover, I've known by Mick that Luigino and Ios are doing their duty. I would like to know how the inn's things are going on, here I've yet found the sardines with pepper. Concerning the cheese, I'm doing some negotiations with an owner. I and all the family members greet you, and blessing you I am

your father
V. Caputo

p. s. greetings to Mick and to his companions

If you answer me, write in english

Regards

Hello,

I want to thank you all so much for your help. It was wonderful to have the letter translated so quickly. I have been able to trace back all of my Italian ancestors except this one because I didn't know the town he was from. Now at least I have a place to start.

Once again thank you all so much.
